bucketmouth64
A fellow co-worker said that a retractable roof may not be possible because there is not enough room. Any truth to this? What about a stadium like the Dallas Cowboys? Partially enclosed with the middle open. Yeah it defeats the purpose of a true open air stadium, but maybe that could be a compromise? Or you could say if they build that they may as well as build one that is retractable. Just throwing out some ideas. I am excited about this new stadium...don't like the placement though. But whatever works will suit me fine.
cheektowaga
All for this deal. I could have given to shakes less about the twins a few years ago but since I started following them I realize how bad they need an outdoor dig. I watch or listen to at least two games out of every three. I love to follow these guys. Last time I went to see them...2002, back when I didn't care. My point: it doens't matter how good they are, how much I love to follow them, I will not sit in the STINKDOME to watch them. It's just wrong. I grew up watching smalltown league ball, loved sitting outside and watching a game. I'd love to be able to watch the TWINS the same way.Let Hennepin Co pay for this stadium. Let Megamall purchases pay for this stadium. Do not put this in the people's hands, or it won't get done.
SledNeck
If they dont build a retractable roof, I'll never go. I go to a few games a year and buy all my tickets early so I can get good seats. Ive been to tons of games outdoors...Candlestick Park, Oak Coliseum, Dodger Stadium,....blah blah blah...I hate em, The metrodome may be old but I like indoorbaseball. You always know what to wear, never raining, never get a scorching sunburn, no sun in your eyes, no wind swirling in your face, no need for large jacket when the windchill gets into the 20s.People need to stop being so happy just to get a stadium and realize that Minnesota is one of the places where a retractable roof is necessary! ozzie
I agree SledNeck!! but I will go no matter what on a nice summer day but in the early and late season games and it is cold, no thanks.

SledNeck
I have to drive 3 hours south....so cant exactly make a spur of the moment decision to go.
Eric Wettschreck
Agree. I drive 4 hours to get to a game. I like outdoor baseball a lot. Cold, hot, sun, wind.....the game goes on. Rain and it's cancelled. Now what?????? I'm not spending a hundred bucks to go to a game that isn't going to happen. Yes, it costs that much and more when you figure tickets, parking, gas, road grub, etc.
koWALLEYEski
I had the chance to play in the dome and I absolutly love that place. It is just a fun place to play a game and to watch games. I would hate to see the twins without it. But i think times change and the twins need a new stadium. retractable roof or not. Id go to the games. Look at boston and NYY. They play outdoors in spring/fall. They can handle it and so we can we. I think we could use it to our advantage.
fishyguy
KOWALLEYESKI,I also have had the chance to play in the dome in high school and college and loved playing there as well but I can't stand watching games there. Best hitting background ever (then again I think the biggest crowd we had in there was about 3500). That said, I am ready to have a new stadium. The only argument that makes sense about a roof is for the outstate fans who travel into town. The way it is set up it looks like it will be up to their legislators to step up for it. Let's see...no sunburn, no wind in the face, no cold, and no rain. When would you fish?
SledNeck
well youd classify fishing as an activity, and baseball as a spectator sport...would u not?
fishyguy
Quote:well youd classify fishing as an activity, and baseball as a spectator sport...would u not? Yes, but either way you are dealing with the elements of sun, wind, rain, etc.... I guess my point was a little tongue in cheek but I will assume what you are saying is you will deal with the elements when the activity is worth it but the spectator sport is not worth it to you. If my assumption is incorrect I apologize but then I would not understand the difference you are making.
SledNeck
To eliminate further confusion, the point im trying to make is that ...to ME, indoor baseball is great because the elements do not distract me from following or ENJOYING the game as close as possible. Indoor baseball is great cause I can bring the wife and kid and not have them whining and complaining about the elements the whole time.
fishyguy
Sled,Understood, now that you have expanded to include more detail...but we will agree to disagree. I do think a retractable roof is ideal but new stadium without the roof would be my next priority. The elements can be part of baseball, football, golf and any other outdoor sport and been tolerated by millions of fans for years. My opinion only and was not trying stifle yours but did not understand your point until you expanded.
GullGuide
If you are driving 4 hours to a game, for god's sakes don't plan on going when the windchill has a chance to be in the 20's like you are complaining about.Go in July or August, don't plan your trip in April or May. Pretty easy huh?
bigbucks
Right & we never get thunderstorms in July & August. You reserve a weekend, or part of a weekend, make motel reservations, whatever & then Thursday night the weatherman says it's going to rain all weekend you're still stuck. Eric Wettschreck
C'mon. So what you're saying is everyone from the metro area buy your advance tickets for the spring and fall games, and us poor "outstate" slobs can get June through August advance tickets? I wonder if the Twins will sell some type of multi game ticket package that way. If so, we can put in for vacation days months in advance.Guess it's not really that easy, huh? GullGuide
dump, I'll take all the July and August games. What I am saying is your odds are better going during the summer than in early spring if you are concerned about the cold. The Twins played at the Met for 20 years. Yes they had rain-outs, but that's part of it. Plan other activities as a back-up if you are concerned. There are no guarentees where weather is concerned, so take your chances and be happy. Besides, I'd rather have a few rainouts than no Twins at all. And P.S. I hope the Vikings stadium is open-air as well...can't wait to brave that 20 below December wind!! The way football should be watched!!
Eric Wettschreck
Getting back to having the REAL home field advantage (Darn cold) is just what the Vikings need.
