What Fuel Additive Do You Use for Your Outboard?

TSCTSC

Question

Dear All,

Is there any additive out there that is really good for the 2 cycle oil injected outboards? I know there are a lot of additives out there that claim to clean and liberate more power etc. But I am worried of trying as I do not want to risk damaging the engine. What can you all recommend for smoother idling and performance? Thanks.

I'd give amsoil a try, been using it for years and can't say enough about it same with a bunch of other guys here, go to their web site and check it out it's good stuff. as far just a fuel additive goes maybe a little seafoam to help keep things clean in the induction system carb's/injectors. grin.gif

by residual do you mean a very small amount at the bottom of the tank like a 1/2pint or less you would be alright. I personally would drain it if you have alot or suck it out with a old turkeybaster with some tubing on the end if it's not long enough to get to the bottom of the tank, this way you'll notice the results right away instead of waiting for the old stuff to burn off, hope this helps grin.gif

TSCTSC, WATCH-OUT for the info you get. The AMSOIL is for PRE-MIX, NOT oil injection. If you want the details, go to AMSOILs' HSOforum, they are VERY helpful and WON't steer you wrong. I've been using it for about 4 or 5 years in all of my 2 strokes, and I'm VERY pleased.

Wrong, Phred, AMSOIL definitely makes oil injection oils. They sell it by the gallon and I have been using it for years. They sell both pre-mix and oil injection applications.

Wow...you guys make Amsoil sound so good. Is it really that good? I have been using everything else and have not been pleased at all. Does the Amsoil not smoke and also makes the engine better?

Also, what other additives do you use to make your 2 strokes run better?

TSCTSC - I put about 1/2 strength Seafoam in all my small engine gas cans year around. Also use non-oxy gas. Beyond that I think one can go overboard on additives (some folk use stabil the same way).

I'd sure go with Amsoil - I posted before and mentioned that if I didn't have a full gallon of petro based TCW-3 I'd be using it now.
