Whats a good size Smallie? Whats a size that you'd have mounted (or plastic rep made) Just curious. I caught a 2lb 4oz Smallie today, let her go, but she was a beaut.

Congrats on your largest smallie ever... One thing to remember is beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You can make a replica of any size fish. Expecially if it has good memories for you!

With all that being said, I would bet most people would say about 5 lbs or so for a mounter.

again.. congrats on the fish!

i think i am shooting for 5 pounds before i make a replica.

i caught my personal best smallie yesterday. it was like a football, 4.1 pounds on the digital scale. she was 18.25 inches long and an amazing 6 inches tall (measured from belly to top)

I would be a non boater if someone has a spot! (as long as Im far away from the pink thongs!) I will definetly go! My personal best measured 21.5 the weight is a guestimate from length-girth but Im pretty confident it was right.

Different waters produce different size smallmouth. Personally, I think that it takes at least a 20" fish to consider it a trophy. My best smallie, 22" caught fishing muskies on a musky surface bait. Seems that the bigger the bait the bigger the smallie, but the fishing might be slower.

Smallies are a beautiful fish that I'm really just getting into fishing for now(personal best around 17"). That comment on beauty being in the eye of the beholder reminds me of a good story I should share. My father(now almost 80) caught a largemouth decades ago that although it was only about 3 lbs he though was the prettiest darn fish he'd ever caught. So much so that he decided to have it mounted. After delivering the fish at an elderly taxidermist, the guy called and said he had the fish done. When my dad went to get it, upon receiving the fish, realized that the man, who was then discovered to be nearly blind, had painted the mount as a perch. My dad didnt even say anything cause I guess he felt bad,and since he was a professor, promptly donated the mount for use as a prop at the U's theater department,

I've caught many 18-19 inchers and they are a blast, and a great looking fish. My personal best is a 20.5 that was shaped like a football, didn't have a scale but I'd bet she was close to five. I'd love to get something in the 21-22 range!

Thats a great story.

Ya, I was just actually wondering because I don't see many Smallmouth and definatley don't catch many and I had no idea what was considered a trophy smallie. All I know is thats the biggest smallie I've ever seen. But hopefully I'll see some more, and some bigger smile.gif

Smallies are by far my favorite fish. I actually like to fish them more then muskies. Pound per pound nothing fights harder then a smallie. My personal best is a 22incher it looked like a freakin fryingpan. Wheighed just shy of 7lbs on an electric rapala scale.

I have never gotten one mounted but I would say once you get to the 20inch mark your good to go. That fish should tip the scale at about 5lbs. And would be a trophy anywhere. You deffinetly see them smaller on walls all over.

Smallie fishin is just around the corner lets keep each other posted on the bite.
