I have a couple of goals.

1) The catch the at least 6lb bass that I've had up to the boat twice from the same lake and same spot. I hope she is still there....I'm not going to loose this battle a 3rd time.

2) Fish a few o fthe good bass lakes that I used to fish when I was younger that I have not fished because of new and better lakes. I don't think these new lakes are any better it's just that I've become a better fisherman. So going back to my beginning lakes.

3) Learn to fish smallies better. Large mouth I can go with the best of them but smallies I've only fished in the rum river and I want to try fishing them on Mille Lacs since I'm so close.

My goal is a difficult one to achieve (at least for me).....After reading every magazine, studying bass how to tapes and books, absorbing mucho info from this and other bass fishing forums, and having a well reseachered attack plan, I get out on the lake at opener and my mind goes blank....AAAAAAAAAAAAH!.....I've been fishing for 40 years and still have this problemmmmm...Is it JUST ME?......Or, are there others out there who are afraid to fess up???? crazy.gif

nope ! you are not alone! what i do is check conditions and decide on one or two tech. to start with. as the day progresses, you may want to make a move to some thing else. that is one of the problems of learning all of thses new things. which one first or second , i also go with what i've comfortable with and slowly exspand from there. also remember to have two rods atleast ready to go. if fishing , a spinnerbait.buzz or a faster moving bait ; have a jig or tube, worm ready for a follow up bait.(then you already have two things going) grin.gif have hope; there is therapy for us !!

This has happened to me as well, but the last couple of years on opener my best lures have been a purple salamander with blue flakes number one and a black spinnerbait. The salamanders only seem to work for the first 2 weeks and then its spinnerbaits and watermelon tubes.

Deitz:

It took me a few years to figure it all out. I turn 40 this year and finally realized that I love fishing, my family and friends too much to keep up the frantic pace of bass tournaments. Fishing is meant to be shared. A communion with creation and the fish. I don't think it should be the next NASCAR. Perhaps it is even a healing activity. In a steadily speeding up, high tech, competative world, I just don't want all that in my favorite passtime. I've been a successful angler, don't need to prove myself to anyone anymore so my goal is to teach a couple of kids to enjoy fishing and maybe catch a few myself. Spend some more time with my daughter on the lake before she grows up and heads to college. I think that is most important right now.

Quote:

my goals are to:

1. finally catch a 4 lb or larger smallmouth (i spend too much time fishing for largies)

2. top my 6 lb. largie from last year.

3. become a better river fisherman.

4. learn to fish deep water better

5. get better at fishing finesse/cold front situations

Finally!!! i've got #1 out of the way. caught a 4.1 pound smallie yesterday!

i will have to change #1 to 5 pound as my new goal.
