Poacher plates wouldn't work in that the (Contact US Regarding This Word) who earned the plates would just sell the vehicle and chuckle when some poor sap gets harrassed unjustly.

I like the idea on the driver license better.....or better yet, a big red "P" on his forehead that won't fade for at least three years.

maybe this would be somewhat "sadistic' in nature but would definitely get the "point" across!...lol!(with a little levity thrown in if one could)...the guy overlimits on perch crappies or other species.........sit him down in a room with a 100 watt light bulb over his head.a table, chair and a plate of the very fish he overlimited on..if he caught 150 crappies...make him eat all 150 crappies at one sitting!.."you like fish?....we'll feed you fish!....now...start eatin"!...grab the back of his head and start force feedin the low life "you know what"... shocked.gif...he probably won't eat fish again grin.gif

Yeah baby!! I like that punishment way more than the one I came up with!!

I don't believe this is happening more and more, I think it's been happening forever and people are getting fed up with it and finally calling the authorities. We all know the uncle or cousin who has "limited out four days in a row". These types find a hot bite and bleed it until it's all bled out. That's why I'm reluctant to give any info to anyone. You tell a buddy about a bite and he brings a co-worker who brings his brothers the the next seven days in a row who 'ain't never seen a bite dis good'. They end up filling their freezers for the family reunion so they can feel like the Lindner boys. It's sad but we need to be tight lipped about the hot spots and outspoken when you hear folks talk about how they've been pilaging our resources; even if they're our uncles, cousins, friends, even our dads!

As the Netman, I usually get real bad with the net when I sense trouble. smirk.gif

If this were to take the same affect as whiskey plates do. once the vehicle is sold, the new owner, with proper application can receive New registration plates. So NO, the new owner will not get harrassed unjustly.

I'm all for the idea, it would help out with hunting also, and people shining deer around ones property, people would keep a closer eye out. I would be embarrassed as heck having them on my vehicle, the public humiliation along with the fine and loss of privleges would be justice enough.

And as far as riding with a friend to the lake, LET 'EM.

if his/her friend gets caught because his/her friend does something stupid, then he/she too will get the plates. They cant depend on thier friend to drive them around forever.

I love the driver/car license ideas. Maybe go further and carry the penalty to the ice house or boat they are fishing/riding in for the 5 years post infraction.

They should have a special blaze orange decal 10"x24" that says," I have poached before, please check my boat". Yearly renewal at $50+. This would give them a chance to explain their resource exploitation to others on the water.

I realize it would be a nightmare enforcing this.... I'm just brainstorming. grin.gif

My 2Cents. Fines should start fairly stiff for first penalties. After that fines should be greatly increased along with loss of privledges and gear and or vehicles. After 3 infractions, loss of privleges for set amount of years, and some jail time. Trust me, after working in a jail for a couple of years know, I think it would kill someone who loves to be outdoors to sit inside while it is nice out and all of their friends are out fishing and or hunting.

How about a bigger costs of hunting/fishing license once an individual gets the oppurtunity to purchase them again. Lets say maybe they have to pay the same as an out of state resident, or if they are an out of stater, pay double. and make them pay that for the next 3 to 5 years or so, depending on the severity of the poach.

I agree with higher fee costs, you want the priviledge then you have to pay for it. We have such a problem here in NE since we are very short on CO's that many offenders get away and keep on doing it to a point where we have some lakes that are becoming fished out. It is frustrating to see someone taking illegal fish by the bucket loads and no CO in sight. I have called before but to no avail. since many CO's cover numerous counties. We had one inciednet where a specific ethinic group of people had a system going at a particular lake. They were fishing the dam and filling buckets of illegal bluegills, crappie and bass. They would take these buckets to the top of the hill next to the road and set them there. Then a car would come by and pick up the bucket and leave an empty one. They did finally catch them in a sting operation but from what they gathered they had been doing it for a couple of months. So hats off to your CO's and give them a pat on the back, they are keeping your state a great fishery that I love to come to year in and year out. i alos got checked by one last year and was the nicest guy, sat and talked for about 20 minutes, gave us a few spots and wished us well.
