What do we do now?

Ice is done, short hops are done, long time to the opener, long time until the lakes open up for boats (relatively speaking).

Chipping golfballs in the back yard is'nt very challenging.

Summer fishing equipment was done last fall, before the ice formed.

Takes 1/2 hour to get the boat ready for action, new lic. tag is on it, batteries are charged, lower unit is filled, stabiled it last season, so it should start right up.

One seasons equipment is all maintained and put away, the next seasons equipment is ready to go.

The "t's" are crossed and the "i's" are dotted, April showers are a couple days early, it's gonna be a great summer, I can't wait! I'll be right at the line with the motor reving! smile.gif

Great time to get that Honey-do list caught up!

Work some overtime (if you are able to)

Hit the Midwest Sport show.

or my personal favorite... Drink some cold ones and grill some great food! (I don't get to grill during the winter)

Hopefully open water will be soon with the weather the way it has been.

Get down to an open water river or big stream and start fishing with the long rods. Backwaters can be very good for panfish right now as well.

To the river my friend check out the Mississippi Pool 4-11 posts. Myself its to the Vermillion out of the hastings area. Crappie/Northern/Walleye. Just stay over the tracks.

If you cross under them stick to just crappies. Rain today definatly ended Ice fishing.

Hee, hee, hee, I was lying when I said I would help! You did'nt know that did you? grin.gif If you ask me again, I'll have Richard beat the bejeebers out of you...and he will "Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee!" grin.gif

I can't remember which fishing incident itwas, but this past winter, something turned me into a drunkard, a liar and a card sharp! grin.gif

Seriously, when the ground is fully thawed and you have your plans made, call one stop so they can mark the underground stuff and I will come down and show you just how fast and efficently I can remove the evergreens!

Your misses said she thought it would take a day...I think I can have it pretty well finished in an hour!

I have to agree with Gus on one aspect of this "dead time" between seasons. The dreaded HONEY DO LIST!! You can actually use it to bargain though. "honey, if I get the bathroom sanded, can I go fishing".. You get my drift. Works like a charm! wink.gif

This is the time of year I get out the custom rod building gear. I build a few each year to pass the time. A few hours a week and it fills the gap pretty good. Nothing like fishing with a rod you built yourself.

Why don't you "get" to grill in the winter? Steaks off the grill in Feb are the greatest! I fire the coals up at least twice a week year round. Have a good one and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

Hey Grebe, head south to the land of no laws. 2 poles and open season on eyes for everywhere but IA great lakes. Clear lake should give you a little action(ice is off) if we get a few days of consistent weather. I know there are better lakes but you should make it in about 2 1/2 hours and there's a Cabela's on the way. I call that a good day.

My house does not have garage, patio or deck. I Just have a stinkin driveway and a shed. I do a little bit or grilling but most of my ice fishing gear takes up the shed so the grill is stored away most of the winter. When I'm finished re-modeling this house and selling it I hope to not have that problem again!

It's been 4 days today since I been on the lake and I am already wondering what to do this weekend. crazy.gif Boat is in for a tune up, I am afraid that I might have to try to finish up some of those things that I started this winter. I do not have a honey do list, but I do have a "I really should do this list". grin.gif Although.... it might be a good weekend to bring the dog to a shooting preserve blush.gif
