0 Guest
check and make sure axle is not bent or not true on trailer. Camber could be way out of wack.Your air pressure should be what tire says.Has to be aligment problem.
0 Rost
Could be an alignment problem, however, I was watching "fishing the Midwest" and they had a guy from Shorelander on explaining the basics of a boat trailor. He says to add air if the outside of your tires are wearing. Good luck.
0 Rip_Some_Lip
I have an atv trailer that is doing the opposite, wearing on the inside. I suspect my axle is bent.
0 Ole1855
FishnBear,When you say they're wearing on the outside of the tire, do you mean on the inside and outside of the tire and not in the center of the tire?? Or do you mean only on the outside edge and not the inside edge of the tire?? It will make a difference on the answer you are looking for.Ole
0 mechanictim
An overinflated tire will wear the center of the tread and an underinflated tire will wear the edges. Most tires lose air over time just sitting, typicaly 1-2 psi per month. Sounds to me like you have underinflated tires.
0 huntnfish
Rip, I also have an ATV trailer that was wearing just the insides of the tire. I looked at the axle and it was upside down, so last fall I took it apart and flipped the axle over. The trailer was homemade, so I think it has always been wrong. I haven't used it enough yet with the new tires on it to be able to tell if that was the problem, but it would be something to check. The bow in the axle should be up. 0 CatManLee
The tires on my old trailer wore badly. In a matter of a month they were chopped and wore pretty bad. I brought it in to a car repair shop, and they straightened the axle. My tires lasted forever afterwards. It was a huge difference. It only cost me about $75.00 to have it done, compared to replacing the tires every month, it was alot cheaper.I would have the axle looked at, it might be the problem. They will be able to tell you if it's bent fairly easily. As for the air in the tires. If it wears evenly on the inside and outside, you need air. If it's wearing down the center, let some air out. If it's only on one side, then more than likely it's your axle.Good luck fixing the problem.
0 FishnBear
I had the trailer aligned and they staightened the axle. then I put a new set of goodyear marathons on it. and the outside edges of the tires are wearing much faster than the center and inside edges. I think I have been running them at 40 psi this is what the tire sales person reccommended.
0 Ole1855
Fishnbear,A trailers tires should have approximatley 1/4" toe-in, it kinda sounds to me like whoever "aligned" your axle may have put too much toe-in. The reason for toe-in is to keep your trailer from swaying back and forth. If there's too much toe-in, the tires would wear on the outside edge too quickly.Ole
