vikingmeatwad
Is the Coleman 2 mantle for $20 at wal mart the most used around? I also see the northstar has an electronic ignition? Is that about the only thing thats better about it? Thanks!!
0 hanson
Viking-I think I paid $20 for a Coleman propane (screw on bottle or hose) with the plastic case. My opinion was this was pretty good bang for the buck. Lantern works fine. I don't have electric ignition and really don't care to have it. Lighting w/ a match isn't a big deal.Just recently added Soderblom's Fish Bright Reflector and am pretty happy with the lantern. There is another pretty good thread going about the Fish Bright and would definitely recommend it.
0 Surface Tension
You can't go wrong with a Coleman and you can get them electronic ignition or buy the ad-on flint ignition. Then get the Fish Bright by soderbloom.com and your all set.

0 gspman
I have the 2 mantle propane model with electronic ignition love it. I love the electric ignition. Just turn the knob and you have light. Just got a fish bright reflector too but haven't had a chance to use it yet so I can't comment on that. 0 G_man
I'd recommend the Coleman NorthStar lantern. In addition to putting out additional light, this puppy puts out some BTU's. If the temperature is 20-ish, I can heat my fish trap guide with the lantern alone. Hence, I'm using less overall propane because I don't have a lantern and a heater running. I also installed a silvery emergency blanket along the roof of my guide, so I save heat that way too. I wouldn't hesitate to spend the few extra bucks on the better lantern. The insta-clip mantles seem to be more durable than the regular sac mantles. I used to own both lantern types, then it just got to the point where I only used the Northstar and I got rid of the 2-mantle lantern.
0 The_Duckslayer
Concur with G Man. I have the north star as well. I found it on the wally world web site 35 bucks with case. Shipped it cheap rate and it was here in three days anyway. Also went down to Cabelas and bought a 4.5LB LP tank. Them one pounders are getting a bit spendy. All set now! 0 Northlander
I found the most reliable lantern I have owned is the Basic 2 mantle Coleman that runs on a 1 pound tank. Click over ignition works on 2nd or third click every time. My Northstars werent that reliable. Maybe they have changed for the better because I see a lot of guys with them. Team this up with a FishBright Lantern reflector from Jay Soderbloom and your in the money. Check them out at www.soderbloom.com Well worth every cent for dozens of applications!
