There have been several articles in both twin cities papers about that. I personally would like to see it. I don't know about you, but I don't think too much about The Red Texan.

This has been around for a few years. Both sides are interested in selling to each other they just have a difference in price. I believe Red wants $600 million and Taylor wants to pay closer to $450 million. I'm not exactly sure about the numbers, but it sounds like that's the sticking point. I predict they'll compromise this off-season and get it done.

I think things will be much better for the purple once they're sold to a Minnesotan.

There's also been talk about Denny Hecker and a guy named Reggie Fowler from AZ. Apparently they don't have the investors to come up with the funds. I'd rather he didn't sell to someone out of state.

Vikings: McCombs disputes sale rumors

THE NEWS

Vikings' owner Red McCombs issued a press release Wednesday to dispute reports that he is on the verge of selling the team. "None of the media reports concerning the potential sale of the Vikings are correct," McCombs said in a statement. "I am continuing to work with our staff on preparing the Vikings for the 2005 season." McCombs purchsed the team for $246 million in 1998.

OUR VIEW

McCombs was very vague when it came to which reports he disputes. After all, there is the report that he has entered into an exclusive negotiating period with Arizona businessman Reggie Fowler. There is also a report that he has upped the sale price from $600 million to $650 million. One way or another, keeper league owners who intend to retain Vikings players should be pulling for a sale. Not only could this situation be a distraction for players throughout the season, but it will be difficult for the Vikings to attract free agent players and top assistant coaches given the uncertainty that exists regarding ownership.

Not good news for Viking fans. The better Red sells this team the better off you will be.

Right on Kato! The guys a car salesman for crying out loud, why would anybody expect him to be forthright and tell us whats going on. I still expect the local group headed up by Glen Taylor to pony up the neccesary funds, or atleast thats what I hope for.

More Viking Sale Rumor Info

THE NEWS

Cardinals' running back Emmitt Smith will retire during the offseason, according to ESPN reporters John Clayton and Chris Mortensen. A league source told Mortensen that Smith might make the announcement as soon as Thursday while in Jacksonville for the Super Bowl. Smith finished the 2004 season with 937 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.

OUR VIEW

It might turn out that an earlier report which indicated that Smith was going to announce his retirement on Tuesday was just a couple days off. That same report also stated that the league's all-time rushing leader intends to join the investment group fronted by Arizona businessman Reggie Fowler, who is attempting to purchase the Vikings. Whether Smith is involved with Fowler's group remains to be seen.
