Minnetonka
I have never caught anything on a Chubbie other then a pearch on a dropper. I am curious 1. how many people use these for Walleyes. 2. Do you tip it? (with what)? 3. How long do you jig with it before switching to something else (if there is no action)4. Does this make a good search lure where you move from hole to hole to see if you can get a strike and mark a fish on your electronics? 5. How agressivly do you jig it?Thanks for any insite. It looks like a cool lure and I have 4 of them now.
Granny
I have never fished with these lures. I did a quick seach on the web for them and the cheapest I could find is $7. Has anyone found them cheaper? Thanks,Granny
iffwalleyes
1. Yes I use them a lot. 2. I tip them with a Minnow head on the bottom treble 3. I depends if I am marking fish that will not bite on it I won't leave it on for very long. If I am not marking fish but have caught fish on it before in that location I will stick with it up to 1/2 hr. Then if nothing then I will switch. I usually will stick with somethink I think is going to work till I mark fish. If they don't react then I change. 4. It is a great search lure. Generally they will bite on it if they are there. 5. I generally work it pretty hard. If you have a fish watching I will work it less hard and twich the lure at there elevation. If they show a little interest I will start slowly working the darter up off the bottom. Once the fish thinks it is running away they will smack it. I have caught a few fish that started on the bottom and when they finally bite I had them about 5 ft off the bottom.
Bob Horn
The fish in my avatar was caught with a chubby darter. You can find chubby darters for $4.5-$5 if you search hard enough. Can`t wait to try the new glow ones.

bturck
I found them today at Scheels All Sports in St Cloud, 6.99 for the #5 the next size down was 5.99. Didn't check at Mills in St Cloud. The word is they are pretty hot on LOW right now. Going to give it a try next Monday. Good luck and hang on. Bill

Bushwacker
1. I use the Chubby Darter for walleye. I usually have it down one whole for jigging and in the other whole I deadstick with a full minnow.2. I always tip it with something. I used to use minnow heads, but that seemed to throw off the natural action of the Darter. Now I have been using the Bio-Bait mealworm/shiner ice bits. They are about same size as a wax worm, but the hold on the hooks a lot better and don't affect the jigging motion at all.3. I will usually stick with it for 15 minutes or so with no action, but if I am seeing fish on my Vexilar and they are not pounding it, I usually switch sooner.4. It makes a pretty good search lure because it is very natural looking and it gets down the hole quickly. When I am outside bouncing from hole to hole, there is nothing worse that having to mess around with lightweight lures that take a long time to get down to the fish.5. How agressivly I jig it really depends on how the fish are reacting. I used the Darter/Bio-Bait combo all week up at Lake of the Woods last week and during certain times I would get bites by letting it hang there without jigging, other times I would life my rod to the fish house roof and I could see the walleyes following it up and slamming it four feet off the bottom.I have all the sizes and almost all of the colors of the Chubby Darters. I am a real Salmo fan. I have a couple full trays in my summer crankbait bag that are filled with Salmo lures. I have had most of my ice fishing success on the the #4 or #5 sizes.
