missinminnesota
Just wandering the sizes of some pigs that were caught at LOW. I am making my annual trip Dec. 27-28th. Four years ago I was "hooked" when I caught a 10lb 4 oz, 30 1/2 inch walleye. We've been going back ever since. I was using an Orange pimple with a minnow head. I can't wait to get on that ice. GOOD LUCK THIS SEASON
jlm
Largest I have seen was right around 14 pounds. Last year, a guy in my house caught one just over 13 pounds and a 10 pounder one after another! Catch of a lifetime!

Finlander
Keep your eye on your locator and when you see a mark suspended half way up from the bottom, pull your bait to and above it. Most times its a whitefish, but sometimes its a big walleye! Good Luck! They do that in "Da Woods"!
mamohr686
It was my girlfriends first trip to the lake of the woods. We were out deep and hammered the saugers and walleyes all day long. My hands were raw from handling so many fish and baiting every hook. I know we caught over a hundred fish. We decided to move in towards pine island to hopefully catch a big fish before dark. After we got set up in about 18 feet, I cranked my bait up about 8 feet off of the bottom so I could eat a sandwich. All of the sudden a giant red bar shows up on my vexilar moving steady towards my gold/maroon kastmaster spoon. I set down my sandwich and hold my rod steady as the big red mark on my vexilar approaches. Of course I'm anticipating a strike but I didn't expect my line to go entirely slack then get slammed so hard that my arm dropped about a foot nearly breaking my medium-light action genz rod. The fight lasted about 5-10 minutes. When I finally got a glimpse of the fish, it was so dark and fat I frowned. Then I told my girlfriend get ready to see the ugliest fish of your life, It's a monster burbot. After the fish made another run and nearly ran all my 6lb line off my my reel again, I finally realized it was a giant walleye. It came up the hole fast. Niki took 2 quick pictures and I released the fish within a minute of landing it. I'll never forget it. That was 2 years ago and now Niki is my wife. We're spending valentines day weekend on lake of the woods again, and she will be using her vexilar she got last christmas.
hanson
One thing I've heard is if you are catching a hundred or so cigar sized walleyes/sauger in a day on Lake of the Woods, you are fishing the wrong area for the big ones. But one of my best days was when we were into the little ones too. Dad and myself pulled a 25", 26" & 28" through all within 1 hour of each other around noon-2pm one day. I'd probably rate that day as one of my better ones up there. Lots of action & big fish. There is also a lot of truth to the suspended fish theory!

Northlander
Nice EYE! Those Big LOW eyes have me hooked. Last year we had 4 houses out in shallow off of pine and in a 45 minute period we caught 6 or 7 eyes over 24". One was 31.5 and 2 were over 28". What a blast. I sure do love those suspended lines on the Marcum. Real up and BANG big eye every time!
