That sounds like a good idea but when I think about it I think it might not be too good. You will be leaving the scent all the way to your stand. I haven't seen many does urinate while they walk or for 10+ feet. I would just put some scent on spots where a buck may come in. Also, I would put it somewhere where you could get a good shot because the buck will stop and sniff and will give you time to make the shot.

Good luck

I use the same sort of thing but use a drag line instead. A does doesnt urinate while she walks but there is scent glands on there legs which can leave scent on tree braches or grass. I have used it with fair response. I have called in more bucks than the scent has brought it.

I've used scents for the last 5 years but have never seen any benefit BUT this year came along. I have aften thought about drags and made a couple but got sick of it hanging up on brush. I have seen pads that strap to the bottom of the boot I may like to try. Anyways, I switched stands on Tuesday. When approaching the stand I saw a Monster rack. I didnt end up getting the deer due to it going on private land after trailing blood about a mile but he was hanging out sniffing my scent wick. I cant believe I was able to walk up on him like that. The other factor.. I had been to that stand earlier and it was the only time I have ever used scent on my boots. I just squirted scent gel on the bottom of my boots while walking in. Did the buck catch the scent from my boots and follow that in to the wick or did he just accidentally come to the wick???? Was it all a fluke??? I dont know but its enough to keep me buying scents. I have only seen one buck (spike) in my 7 years hunting other than this one and it still makes me sick to think about it.

p.s.- If i would have been in that stand to start with, I could have jumped down on his back. I have been a believer of staying in the stand all day but I rarely make it. Its tough. I did opener and should have tuesday!! It helps if you have a comfy one. I just use a ladder stand.

I have the fever for next year already

A couple of years ago i put a bottle of doe in heat out in front of my bowstand before i climbed in for the afternoon hunt. The afternoon was quite uneventful. When i got down i forgot too pick up the bottle of doe in heat. The next afternoon i hunted the stand again and found a 6' diameter scrape over top of where the bottle had been. The bottle was basically pounded into the ground too where i could just see a bit of it sticking out. That afternoon I passed up shots at 5 different bucks that came in and worked that scrape. All five were young 6 and 8 pointers. In the next week i sighted some much nicer bucks in that general area, i dont know if bottle that i forgot in the field had anything to do with it. What a scene that must have been, the deer that first found that bottle and beat that bottle into the ground.
