Cottrell overrated?

Is Ted Cottrell overrated? From all that I have heard and read many feel the defense is one of the best in awhile. When will we see that? Sure you can make excuses that we have injuries or young players, what team doesn't have that problem. Most winning teams have a better defense than ours? Our defense seem like they stop anyone. Is it the mindset that our offense will bail them out? I was excited about Cottrell coming here with his past success. But we haven't seen any results yet. We can't blitz, our front 7 can't make plays, and we finally make an interception. I think opponents know that if they are behind they still have a chance to win the game in the 4th no matter how far behind they are. Maybe this is why Cottrell got passed over on head coaching jobs. I think we will make the playoffs, but defense wins championships, and right now we are not even close.

I'm hoping that as the season goes along, they will improve. Well they pretty much cant get worse. Sadly, if they had a top 20 D, they would be a serious contender for the SB. As is, they will not win it, again...

Chavous is smart, but he doesnt make the plays??? Russell, career year last year, and he is white I mean come on....

Oh well, have fun watching the O...

How can you have 2 safety lead the league in Int's and this year they have 0? It has to be the coach change. If George was here, I think the defense would be different. Last time I checked O'Leary hasn't won a game yet for UCF, maybe he will come back. Probably not.

IMO it all boils down to a lack of a pass rush. We can stop the run (of course every team has to abandon the run to try and keep up) but our secondary gets picked apart. Interceptions happen much more frequently when the QB is rushed and has to make a throw on the run or dump the ball to avoid a sack. You would think that when we are up by 14 or more early they would tell the weak side end to attack and not worry about the run but then again what do I know.

They probably do, I don't think our linemen know how to get to the QB. I don't think our secondary's all that bad, the QB's we play against generally have all day to find a guy. You'd think we'd at least get a coverage sack once in a while.

The problems go back to coaching. We have the players that can do the job. I wonder if the position coaches under Cottrell aren't doing a good enough job to get the most out of the players. Then again, is Cottrell demanding more out of his position coaches to get the most out of the players.

Look at how Tice got so much out of the offensive line when he was a position coach.
