Anyone out with the bow this week?

Recommended Posts

Was out on Sunday evening in the Alexandria area, and saw 5 does and 2 bucks. One doe had a large 10 pointer trailing her, and then they got interupted by a nice 6. They never got close enough for a shot, but they went into some cover and I thought I heard some sparring going on.

Will definitely be back out to this spot if the wind is right to try and get a shot at that 10. He was a real beauty.

I hunted through Monday night west of Walker. Private land. It's definately a early morning and sundown thing up there. Around 4pm they seem to start moving and in the morning you can see they've been out heavy at night. It seems like the same as past years. A poachers delight I guess. I may do a bit of still hunting this weekend with the muzzleloader. The other thing is the deer are usually where hunters aren't, big time. I never hunt a stand twice, doesn't seem to work at all. I've pondered putting some human scented clothes in areas I'm not going to hunt just to keep the deer out of there when I'm in other spots. Only two of us hunt the approx 250 acres for muzzleloader.

That's what I figured. The guns got 'em pretty scared. I haven't hunted around my house for 3 weeks. I think I'm going to play the wind with some scent. Bucks should still respond.

Might go with the white camo for a few days off the ground to figure out where they're at now...at least until you guys with the smoke poles come along on Saturday!

Brings up a good point. Bow hunters need to put some orange back on from Nov.29-Dec.14 (correct me if these dates aren't right).

I hunt in the Red Wing area, haven't seen a deer off stand in almost two weeks. The earliest they've shown up in my back yard is 6:15 in the evening. I leave for work before sun up so I not sure about morning movement. I hunt in an archery only area so I can't blame it on the gun hunters. I'm going to hit it hard over the holiday, maybe I'll get lucky.

My dad started putting feed in his deer feeders this past Monday, which signifies the end of our bowhunting for the year. He and I may still get out a time or two, but it depends on the weather. He had 4 does/fawns come into the feeder Monday night and 5 does/fawns on Tuesday night. He said it was right before dark. This afternoon I went from here to Duluth and back to pick my kid's up for turkey day. I saw around 15 deer on the way back, right around dusk, still plenty of shooting light though. There were 10-12 on a field pawing through snow and chowing down. Me and a buddy were out small game hunting yesterday and saw quiet a few tracks. I head back to work Fri-Tue, wife's bday on Wed, and head to Mitchell, S.Dak on Thurs-Tues to chase roosters. Hopefully I'll squeeze a spearing trip in on Monday. Too dang busy right now. LOL

Wondering if anyone hit the stand this week?

Anybody in central MN know what time the deer have been moving? I haven't seen any at sunup or sundown on my 43 mile trips to and from work this entire week.

Anybody spotted any? How about follows? Bucks should still be trolling for does and possibly firing the scrapes up again.

The weekend storm changed things quite a bit around the mpls area. It has primarily been a morning event. They don't seem to be coming out until well after dark now and in the morning it is looking like you need to be pretty darn close to their bedding area and try to tag them on their way into the bedding area. But this is heavily hunted public land and they are a bit skittish to say the least.

I'll know more tomorrow. Im pushing in to the area around 5 AM and sleeping in my stand until shooting time. smile.gif

Was out yesterday morning and evening NW of Willmar, saw two fawns in the morning and a doe and fawn in the evening at about 75 yards, followed shortly after by a small buck, not the big one that I'm after.

Kind of sucks to a have to get the red clothes and flashlight out Sat morning... I'll feel like a Christmas ornament up in the tree.

Was out last night for the first time since gun season. I had 3 doe's walk up 15 yrd away and one of them didnt get away. All my tags (4) are filled so im done for the year. All in all, filling my tags and others I got 4 with my bow (2 were mine - an 8 pt and 3 does) and 2 with my gun (8 pt and a doe- brother filled one of my tags with a doe so i got to fill his buck tag, lucky me) ). Best season ive ever had.

Happy Hunting
