PurpleFloyd1529315463
Well, I was at Scheels tonight and pulled the trigger on a Clam 4000T hub. I had been looking at a few different ones and they had a 4000 set up in the store so I was able to get a good feel for it. It looks like a nice product and will give me the room I need. I know there were some problems with zippers that seem to have been addressed. What do the most current zippers look like and what did they do to improve them? I like the storage pockets and the heavier thermal material. Can't wait to get it on the ice.
muskie hunter
They made the zipper tabs from plastic rubber to metal.
picksbigwagon
whatever model and make you get, make sure it is "thermal", I went from a non thermal flip over this to a thermal model, it is night and day temperature wise
hilts
Be careful when zipping/closing the doors. There is a ton of tension on the zippers and they can pull apart while zipping. I have seen suggestions of pushing on the pole nearest the zipper to relieve the tension and or waxing/lubing the zippers to help with the issue also. Corey Bechtold
I'm not an expert but I think the reason the zippers close so hard is the poles may be a tad long or aren't sitting in their "pocket" all the way. If you feel that your tent is too tight call Clam Customer service or shoot me a PM and I will put you in touch with someone that can help you. Congratulations on the new purchase! See you on the ice, Corey Bechtold
8ucksho7
I also recently got a 4000t and had a couple of sagging roof poles. I emailed Clam customer service and got a phone call the next day. The problem isn't with the roof poles, but the wall poles. They are too long and needed to have about an inch trimmed off them. They explained what I had to do and it took only about 10 minutes to take them out, trim & re-install. No more sagging roof poles! I believe the tight zippers are because certain poles are a little long. Big shout-out to Clam customer service!
deerminator
I bought one last year and the rubber zippers all snapped in two. They sent me a bunch of key rings with heavy duty string pulls on them and they work like a charm. I could have done this myself easily too but it was nice they sent them to me in a day or two after I called. Good luck. I really like my 4000. Great for the family fishing. Plenty of room and fun times.

I am going to set mine up in the shop tomorrow to make sure it works.

PurpleFloyd1529315463
I set mine up in the shop last night to make sure everything worked like it should. I popped the top first, had the doors zipped shut and then popped the sides. Everything worked out fine. I have been a little hesitant about Clam products to be honest but this hub looks like it is a pretty solid unit. There was one window where the stitching went through both pieces of velcro so I couldn't open it but I took a knife blade and cut the stitches and hopefully that doesn't cause any problems with unraveling but I like the unit so far and look forward to testing it out today. PurpleFloyd1529315463
Well, we took it out today for the first time. The hub worked well. It has a ton of room and it was very warm. No troubles with the zippers but it would be nice to have a ring or something to grab when opening and closing. The fabric tabs they have attaches to the zipper don't seem to be strong enough to hold up to pulling on them. It was fairly windy today and there were no problems setting up the hub or keeping it in place in the wind. However, I bought the clam ice anchor drill adapter to make installing the anchors easier and it snapped in half while installing the 4th anchor. Ther really wasn't even any force being applied to it and certainly not more than necessary to seat the anchors. Not too impressed with that item at all but other than that the hub was a hit. MNCPRGUY
Ditch the drill and the Clam adapter. I went with Ultimate Ice Anchors and they are worth their weight in gold! Also added figure 9 rope ties to the side pull loops. Makes cinching up your guy lines easy and gives you something to grab when you pop the hub. I just looked them up.They look to be priced by their weight in gold. 100 dollars for 4 with tax and shipping is a bit hard to justify. DTro
Digger Ice Angels. I've never used anything but one Angel on each side. I've never put a screw into the ice... oh wait, I take that back. I tried using the Clam screws once and bought the ice angels the next day.

Someone made me one of those ice angels and I use it to anchor my suitcase shelter and will use it on the side to the wind for sure. Somewhere I read that guys are using lag bolts which makes a lot of sense and would be cheap.
rockman
What's the maximum diameter these digger anchors extend to? I have a couple different sized augers bits I can use.

You can uses them up to a 10 inch……think I remember hearing that a 6 inch drill is to small though.
govikes211
Lag bolts work great if you normally bring a drill along. Those XRT Rope Lock Tie Downs Ditro showed work absolutely great. I have the figure 9 tie downs too, but the XRT tie downs are really slick and fast to tie down.
going4it
Lag bolts and the pull tight straps are all you need. Nothing fancy at all.
