St Pats Day Food

Recommended Posts

I don't even know why I'm posting this because it's food related and within 7 posts it will be about favorite colors of the rainbow or some other non related topic.  By the way my favorite color is red.

Anyway...we're having a pressure cooker chuck roast tonight.  I'm going to leave the grill on, set up the pressure cooker, give the dog that knife she was eating, but since I'm saving water now I can put the fire(s) out without using any more water than we did last month.  My problem is tomorrow we're having corned beef and frankly I'm a little disappointed since I planned this this morning and it's a terrible plan.  Maybe I will make reuben's instead so we're not doubling up too close.

Btw- I just notice it's about 60 days til walleye opener.  I say about 60 because BB is keeping track different than the Saturday opener, there is the real Saturday opener, and some people I've heard like to do a little Friday "crappie" fishing opener too.  Hopefully I will have new tires by then.

Maybe some Scottish folks can post some good old Scottish food ideas so we know where to start? :)

I thought it was a Drinking Holiday?

Let's not confuse the Scottish with the Irish, please....  How about a nice, plump Haggis? I'm sure Dotch can supply us with the primary parts......and I'll bet RH could whip us up a nice Black Pudding.

So, your saying the Bar's will not be full to the brim with Scottish and non-Scottish people all dressed in Green just to party filling urinals tonight!

Don't remember saying anything about that....3/4 of them probably have no idea of their heritage.  "I came from California"...  "Green beer and fish tacos, ya, baby!!"

I know my cuz in St. Paul is probably already downtown drinking green beer and eating the green pancakes at O'Gara's......as they say, on St Pat's day, "everyone is Irish for a day".;)

My favorite color is green today but usually it is blue.  We are still on topic since color was mentioned in LL's opening statement.  I have been wanting to try a chuck roast in my new pressure cooker.  My Grandma used to do it and they were great.  Those totchos look pretty darn good.  That is a good idea.  Corned beef at our house of course.

Smurfy's favorite color is blue; today it's green.  Wonder how he looks with a green hat? :P  Corned beef sounds darned good to me. With lotsa cabbage.

wearing green today is the same as wearing red on Valentines Day.  It's what women do.  I nearly put a green shirt on this morning and then purposely didn't.  Frankly, if you're wearing green today you are wearing a costume.  The only rational for a man wearing green today would be to suck up to his significant other in the hopes for...

I mean the above in good humor...kind of :)

Reb I have pretty much every pair of obnoxious colored golf shorts imaginable including some with bright green clover leaves on them.  I could post many photos of me in them also.  Sometimes when I'm heading to golf I have realized I have to stop at the gas station before and I change my clothes first.  I certainly wouldn't be caught in public wearing what I normally wear on the golf course.

image.jpegyou golf so you have another reason to hang out with your buddies.  If you golf with your wife too often you're a "Wife Golfer" and that's not good. :)

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
