Cub Gas Rewards

Recommended Posts

I think this goes along with the food and cooking topic.  I was pretty geared up yesterday to use my Cub rewards card for the first time.  Bobber had posted a while back filling his truck up for $5 or something so I got the card and was all in on claiming my prize of nearly free gas.  Problem one was that I lost my card so I had saved up a boatload of receipts and went into Cub to get them put on the card when I finally found it. I had 80 cents a gallon coming so I figured I'd run my tank down to some level where I could take full advantage of the program (I learned later this wasn't going to work).

This is where my mind really starts working.  I like the concept I call "legal stealing."  It's when I got to the store and only buy the single item they are giving away as a loss leader that they try to lure unsuspecting shlummmpssss  in.   In this case not only was I going to get cheap gas but I was also going to make a wager with an unsuspecting friend.  So I call my cheap buddy Mike and chit chat for a while and then mention gas prices.  He has some hybrid sedan and gets way better mileage than I get with a 3/4 ton pick up.  With expertise and guile I lure him into proposing a gas bet but I tweak it a bit into who can buy the cheapest gas per gallon.  With the bet set I then go to Holiday with my gas card.  I don't go to the nearest Holiday but I find one with that cheap E85 garbage.  Sign says 1.69 per gallon but the pump says 1.79.  I go in and cry foul and the guy agrees to give me the sign price.  I use my Cub Card and I'm paying .89 a gallon and at around $22 or so the pump starts slowing down,   I guess they limit you to 20 gallons, live and learn.

.89 cent gas and a free lunch from Mike.  Win/win.  Now I need to buy more groceries so I can save even more money :)

The gas station at the grocery store here in PA has a 30 gallon limit then the pump shuts off. I only have a 14 gallon tank so when I save up enough credits for basically a free tank of gas I take mine and my buddies gas cans down and fill those up so I get close to 30 gallons as possible. The only thing I don't like is when your saving up for a cheap fill up the store will start deducting points after two months if you don't use them. I  I get $.10 off a gallon for every $50 spent at the store.

Coffee-  Cub does that too I think so the saving the receipts and cashing in at once accidentally worked to my benefit.  I think the 30 day started once the receipt is put on the card.

no cub card here but we have a fleet holiday gas card. talk about win/win/win. the holiday in town has a program with the local grocery store. buy 50 bucks in groceries you get a 5 cent a gal off. it says limit 15 gals but the holiday doesn't limit. you get a punch card at the gas station with 70 points on it. for every 5 bucks spend it gets punched at 5 dollar intervuals. when that's punched full you get 5bucks off at grocery store. AND  I don't pay fer the gas!!!!!!!!!!!!:P:D

Ya baby, been doing this for many years . Back before they had the cards you always got the receipts but could only use 3 at a time at Holiday. Always saved the .30 cent ones when we went out of town and the small ones whenever.

Im not sure how many hundreds of dollars I've saved just in the last couple of years,  my truck is like yours LL,  the 410 gears eat up fuel like my son at the table. One thing is nice, you get several cards on the account,  so my kid and myself have one for our smaller purchases and the wife has hers for the massive weekend visits, it climbs rather quick.  Being a Sams and costco member I need to start fueling there in the odd times to get the savings like eyeguy . I have fun just watching the cashier when they see that they almost owe me for a take of fuel...but I suppose we are paying for it at the checkout,  but then again we all need groceries..might as well sign up if you can.

I did pull up the stores regulations finns, if that's what you meant about directions.  It does state that you can not link more than one card to an account.  I'm not sure how it's set up lately but back several years we received two key chain cards and one bigger card all under the same account.
