leechlake
For the past month or so I've been trying to spread my wings a bit making dinner. Frankly, it hasn't worked that well. I think we eat what we eat because we like what we've been eating. In my next attempt I've jogged my memory in some things my mom made. I think I will skip that "swiss" steak thing and some others she made but she had solid old school meals. Also every once in a while we had popcorn night. Usually when a Duke movie was on or something dad would declare popcorn night. We had a hand shaker that you'd do the popcorn in over the gas flame of the stove lathered in butter. I think we'd have Hi-C out of the metal can that you used the can opener on the top to punch the triangle holes in. That stuff was awesome. Any new ideas for dinner? I have popcorn and Hi C covered. delcecchi
Actually I like swiss steak. Try "breakfast for dinner" with eggs or pancakes or waffles along with the breakfast meat of choice. Pot roast, with some potatoes and carrots. Enchiladas. Pinto beans and corn bread. Tacos. Fish tacos are great by the way. Fried rice made with actual rice. Carnitas (mexican pulled pork). Pasta with one of many sauces, not just boring old red sauce. Carbonara, Prima vera. olio e aglio (olive oil and garlic), bolognese, etc. Various "hot dish" type things. Are there deal breakers for your family? Spice, garlic, broccoli, etc?
leechlake
hey neighbor lady lover...I meant we have Rice A Roni in the pantry aka "in stock" and I can't be a clown because my oldest kid is afraid of them and has been since he was 2 years old but that's another story... we do have weiner night sometimes though and it's been a while, good call. Del- there are deal breakers, spice would be one for the kids. I love spicy stuff and so does Mrs LL. RebelSS

Challenge: Give me a list of what's on hand, and in TWO minutes (time it) I'll come back with a good idea....... And there's no need to tell me about "wiener night". delcecchi
OK, turkey tetrazzini is another good one. Red beans and rice hold the cayenne. Various stir fry type things. Those chicken things with the cheese and bacon. Chicken cordon bleu. Chicken saltimbuca , chicken marsala. 1 minute ago, RebelSS said: Diego Del's hooked on pintos this month. leechlake
I guess we always have normal stuff in our house. Chicken, white and dark meat, ground beef, multiple pasta types, marinara, alfredo, soup, all sorts of spices and garlic, steak, beef roasts. I kind of feel like I'm in Forest Gump listing all the shrimp preparation techniques... We have breakfast for dinner sometimes but rarely. Last time a kid complained about home made waffles and bacon. Almost smacked the kid in mop haired head. We had Del a Roni last night with pork chops... RebelSS
Chicken .....and steak.....marinate some boneless chicken breasts in lime juice. Same with some beef strips. Cook in oil with sliced onion strips, and green pepper strips, if ya have 'em. Shake in cilantro, cumin, chili powder. Make some Del(i) rice with tomatoes and onions and chili pepper seasoning. Grab that jar of salsa and cover chicken breasts and beef strips with it in pan until hot. Spinkle with shredded cheese you have on hand, cover until melted. Serve on top of that rice, alongside those Del pintos if ya have any. *DING* 2 minutes up. bobberineyes
Our meals are pretty much set all week long if for some reason something doesn't get pulled out the day before to thaw, and can't do something else planned, I'll look for the can of tomato soup and whip up some grilled smoked cheese...easy peasy, and if that doesn't happen it's riff raff night, anything kind of frozen finger food chucked in the oven. reinhard1
Well tonight I'm having buffalo wings with a small twist, adding diced or sliced jalapeno peppers in the final process. Franks hot sauce mixed with butter is fine but I want to kick it up some. I season the wings, sliced jalapenos, and put them in the oven until just about done. In the meantime I put a big bottle of Franks in a large saucepan and add a couple of sticks of butter to it. Bring it up to a simmer. When the wings are just about done I put them in a large bowl. Then dump the sauce with the butter over them and mix them up good. Then I put the wings and sauce back in the pan and put them back in the oven. When the wings are done I pour off any excess sauce and put the pan back for another 15 minutes or so for the wings to finish up. Served with a salad on the side [instead of rice . good luck. leechlake, bobberineyes and Cooperman

leechlake
let me derail my own post. WELLS FARGO is a terrible bank with terrible service compared to smaller banks. We have banked with them personally for 20 years and just went to get something notarized from them and they wouldn't do it. I asked her politely the first time why and she said that is was just "our policy" on some things. I asked for clarification and after the dubbed attempt I asked "why would we bank with you?" She said, "I don't know" I'm not kidding, she said "I don't know". Same branch last Fall in Medina had me on hold with the manager for so long I finally got in my truck and drove there while still on hold on my cell phone. I stood at the manager's door and she was looking at her cell phone. "May I help you" I told her that I was the guy on line one on hold. We got that thing handled in person but it was painful to participate in to say the least. Trust me these two issues weren't any difficult things. I've done both dozens of time at the now gone Associate Bank by my house without any issue at all. Funny that the tellers at Associated knew my name and I knew there names and Amy and Melanie knew my kids names... it was a small branch, God I miss it. There I hijacked my own thread. Just now, dacoach said: Pulled pork nachos. Do you have a smoker? Every man should have a smoker!!! I've got pulled pork in the fridge from smoking a pork shoulder on Sunday. leechlake
Ten years ago I had a minor problem with my attitude when I got awful customer service. Usually I wrote letters and often times got results. I also brag up good customer service, that's only fair. Today I was pretty hot and just walked out after giving her the hand...so to speak. She offered us coffee and water to start after hearing our major request for a one minute notary meeting. As she sat on the phone with "Corporate" she offered coffee again and I said no thanks and she said, "well...it is kind of late in the day for coffee I guess." I wanted to tell her to just stamp the freaking thing and that I didn't plan on having coffee and water and a meal at the bank. It's just pathetic I tell ya. I called the South Dakota small town bank that I was getting the thing notarized for and he just laughed and offered to drive up to the Cities on Friday because he was going to be in Marshall anyway. Huh? My banker will drive 170 miles one way to notarize this thing but Wells Fargo won't stamp it? Interesting. 13 minutes ago, Dotch said: Lamb...
