Favorite New Year's Eve must have's..

Name TWO New Years Eve goodies you have had to have over the years. My two, that I think I've been making for over 30 years, in addition to all the cheese, crackers, etc., are the little smokies in BBQ sauce and shrimp cocktail. Simple and easy. I add smoked chipotle pepper, a splash of bourbon or whiskey, and a shot of Worcestershire to my favorite BBQ sauce, and pour over the smokies in a fondue pot. (Ya, I've had it since 1976, and still going strong) They simmer for the nite, until I hit the sack. Love eating those cold in the am...I get the large or extra large shrimp and toss in a chilled dish with a cup of cocktail sauce in the middle. Best to eat lotsa cheese slices in between those and the smokies;  or ya end up dipping the shrimp in with the smokies....then ya can't tell the two apart.  'Course, that happened a lot more when I was drinking. :P

This is not the season to eat healthy so we are having Lobster dunked in lots of butter. Will also have some brussell sprouts from our garden and a salad. Probably a few Manhattans as we get ready.  Speaking of fondue, I might have melted cheese on the veggies....   That sounds great.

I have never gone out for new years in my life.  I know it's sounds unreal but I'm not into crowds and never have been.  Always had new years at home or on the ice.  I'll probably have wings and shrimp with rice for a side.  good luck.

Those finger foods all sound awesome,  up and down this thread. I'm with ya boar on spending it on the ice, before I met Mrs bobber and the little bobbers came along the boys and I would head to the cabin to spend the eve fishing,  whooping it up and filling buckets. ...I gots to start doing that again :)

just heard my son's buddies are throwing him a surprise birthday party New Years eve...at our house?  30 plus 16-17 year olds here.  Sounds like a lot of pizza and I've been requested to smoke a couple things.

You may have to. Like a fattie.  I may have to come up to supervise.

We're big on apps. My two things:

Meatballs:

1 package of meatballs (or make your own), 1 jar of Heinz Chili Sauce, 1 Jar of Grape Jelly.  Cook the meatballs, combine the Chili Sauce and Jelly in spot and heat not eh stove until hot and well-combined.  Dump the meatballs in.  DONE.

Cheesy Hamburger Dip:

1 lb of ground beef, 1 block of velveeta, 1 can Cream of Mushroom soup, 1 jar of Chunky Salsa, dash of Hot Sauce.  Brown the burger, cut up the Velveeta in 1" cubes, put in crockpot. Dump in can of soup and salsa, put the cooked hamburger on top and turn on high for an hour or two.  Give it a stir, add hot sauce to taste, turn heat to low and serve with chips.

Roughly how much weight in meatballs for the amount of sauce?

My buddy brought me over a bowl of this last nite. It's great, but we both decided it needed something...a bit of garlic powder was just what it needed. He added some lemon juice also, to his. DON'T use the low-fat sour cream or cream cheese. :P

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
