Bambito
Our house was built in 1978 and on our bedroom and bathroom doors upstairs the door handles sit further in towards the middle of the door. My father in law says they did this to save your knuckles. ( I will try and post a picture of it) anyways I need to replace the whole mechanism in the door but it requires a longer one then the 2 3/8" ones that all the big box stores carry. Anyone else run in to this kind of problem and what did you do? I would rather not replace the whole door.
highlife4me
I know I have bought latches that were 2 3/4" at a Menards. I don't think I have seen them any longer than that.
CAMAN
Most sold at big box stores are adjustable between 2 3/8 and 2 3/

bobberineyes
1978 and they were still doing that? I remember years ago Knox and Menard s sold longer inets but probably no more. Best bet to try a smaller hardware store or see if you can order one. I'm guessing it's a hollow core door so you can always replace the door. highlife4me
Do a quick search for a 5" backset. Schlage and Kwikset make what you are probably looking for.

Tom7227
What is wrong with the ones you have? Maybe you can fix them without too much trouble. They aren't that complicated.
Bambito
I would try and fix the one but the other one has been mia since we bought the house. Realtor told us the owners took it out cause they had two small boys in the room and they took it out so they wouldn't lock themselves in the room.
