Best dock strategies...

Mine:

1) 1/4 oz. flipping jig (no skirt) with a craw, flippin' tube, or Super-Do. I use this setup for docks in dirty lakes or ones with heavy weed cover. 30 pound braid is my choice of line.

2) 1/8 oz. bullet nose jig with a light wire weed guard sporting a tube, 3" craw, or Super-Do. Sometimes I'll mix in a 4" ring worm or a grub. I like this combo on the clean docks in clear water. The weedguard is there to discourage hangups on the dock, but you'll still hand up plenty. I'll go with 8 pound mono hear.

3) A fluke style bait, no weight, and a barrel swivel with a 10" leader. I'll throw this on 8 pound if weeds are not a factor or heavy braid if they are.

Senkos and tubejigs are my favorite cause I am pretty good at skipping them under docks. I also enjoy popping a topwater right down the sides and front, and under corners. Docks are probably one of my favorite structures to fish for bass.

Like all the rest, I like a tube or Senko. However, try a spinnerbait, burn it down the side of the dock and then kill it on a fall when you hit the front corner, this can be an awesome presentation. Especially for LM on stained lakes. Otherwise: 3" Green pumpkin BPS Flippin tube, 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG, on 17 LB Trilene Green XL-- 1/8 oz bullet weight PAINTED black.

I don't think anyone said a super fluke. I did get a nice 19" bass early this year under a dock tossing that under there. Otherwise I like all the above to, but I don't really do the spinnerbait deal. Maybe I should. Hmm. I love bass fishing!

The FLYING LURE wink.gif j/k!

When I fish docks, I usually throw a spinnerbait or buzzbait first and then slow it down if I don't get anything. When slowing it down I usually go for some sort of plastic: senkos (tex & wacky rigged) & tubes (weightless or 1/16-1/8oz pegged)are personal favs and easy to skip, next I would have to say a jig'n pig. A jig'n pig always seems to catch bigger fish, but I'm still not very good at skipping baitcasting rods yet (even with thumbing). I used to be able skip with an old (10yr old) shimano baitcaster I have. It has a spool button that releases the spool when pressed down and locks the spool when released and that really helped with the backlash. So for now I just stick to med/h spinning rods for skipping.

Plastics or jigs is what I like to use on docks. Magic Stiks are one of my favorites for docks, they skip well and don't get snagged real easy. Tubes are one of my favorites too for the same reasons. Can't beat a jig for quality fish certain times of the year - 1/4-5/16 oz. black/blue with plastic trailer... Just be careful not to knock the pontoons with the jigs - they are a bit louder than a soft plastic when you miss smile.gif
