OnAFly
I've got an FL-18 that's been having an issue where it wouldn't read any of the return signal. It would flash in and out, then nothing. It first happened in LP mode, then normal as well. The cone still spins. I still see a red blob o. The top, but nothing below that. Anyone dealt with something like this before? I'm thinking I'll replace the battery and hope for the best.
Mr.Seaguar
Does your transducer cable have cuts in it? I damaged a transducer cable years ago and my fl8 did some wonky stuff. Good luck
leech~~
Put the bottom of your ducer up to your ear and see if you can hear a clicking sound? If you can't? It's shot. Or you're wheel brushes maybe bad and need to be replaced.
CaptainMusky
I had a similar thing happen to my lx3 but it was a bad battery.
OnAFly
Ducer clicks loud and clear. Picked up a battery at FF today, I'll check it out this week.
OnAFly
I put the new battery in, worked at first, but then the same issue. If I grab the cable at the ducer, and push it into the ducer, it gets better. I'm guessing the connection between the cable and the ducer is bad after enough rough usage. Deitz Dittrich
New battery first as others have said.. always nice to have a back up anyway. Then could be a dirty brush issue? lastly , try and find someone with a vex to test the ducer..
JP Z
That would be my suggestion as well, if you know someone with a Vex just try their Ducer in it and see. Easiest fix now that you have tried a new battery to no avail.
bbfenatic
OAF...there is a way to test your ducer on the Vex site...hold it 24" from a hard surface, turn to first setting and you should get a red line at 12 o'clock and another at 9 o'clock...not sure if that will answer your question but you may want to test it...that may tell you if ducer bad or maybe the brushes need to be cleaned, had that done to a Marcum VX-1 I used to have and sent it in, they cleaned the brushes and that made it good as new. OnAFly
I'm going to have to borrow my neighbor's ducer and give it a shot. If all goes well for a whole day, I'll be picking one up. I'll have to take the thing apart and clean the brushes too. Sounds like it's a pretty easy process.
