Wish-I-Were-Fishn
I want to set up a limited use new user account on my PC running Win7 Pro.I got the account set up, but when I try to run a program from the new user account it wants to install it again in that new user screen. The program is already installed and I just want to allow another user to run it. I shouldn't have to install it again... or do I?
upnorth
Depends, if you installed for use by just you when you originally set it up, you probably will need to re install the app.
delcecchi
You shouldn't have to install the program, but you would need new shortcuts because each user has their own desktop. At least that is how I understand it.
upnorth
Is the icon you double clicking on the application or the installer? There may be a permissions issue too.
upnorth
Another thing, this is where the shortcut should live. c:\users\public\desktopJust go to start, and in the search line key in without the quotes "c:\users\public\desktop" and hit enter, that will open up the all users desktop. Could be you just need to copy and paste the shortcut from your desktop into that folder.
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
The icon. It was already on the new desk top, but wants to run the installer when I click it.
leech~~
If it was a buy software program they make you reinstall under the new name so they can make sure both users are paying to use it!
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
All I want to do is allow someone to log into the computer from another location and be able to run just that one program. I could do it by allowing them access to my user screen, but don't want that because there are other things I don't want them to have access to. MN Mike
I think upnorth hit on it in the first reply, did you see any type of screen like the one below when you were installing the program? Otherwise you might have a permissions issue, I would make that user an Admin and test the program. Mike
