ever notice, if you go to say the chevy HSOforum, then go to a web sites forums, and it doesn't matter what site, that there is ads on the side bars of the very thing or subject that you have been visiting? I noticed this awhile back, but thought nothing of it. I was at the ranger boats site looking at the new rangers, then came here, and had ranger boat ads. today, I was at the chevy site, and today I have chevy ads. very funny. all other sites forums do the same thing, its not just here. it just goes to show you, that someone is tracking our surfing.

No, your computer is tracking you. Go into your internet settings and turn off Third Party Cookies, and clear them. Should fix most of it and you will mostly get generic ads afterwards. Also turn on or install Adblock to get rid of them completely.

Websites can track where you were before you visit their sites and where you went afterward. An example this can be found with a buddy of mine runs divorce HSOforum. He noticed that a majority of his site's visitors were going to dating websites right after viewing his site. He worked out some advertising deals with a few of the websites. It was profitable but quite a few customers thought it was distasteful as well.

Whatever you think of the decision, it shows how websites use tracking information for their own benefit.

they are turned off. it must be charter doing this, which would not surprise me.

It's not your Internet provider, it's a service called remarketing that Google (and other search engines) offer advertisers. Once you visit an company's site they can can choose to show you display ads on other websites. They are betting that will eventually spur you to buy, rather than creep you out.

Most of these ads have what appears to be a blue arrow in the upper right corner. You can click that and then go into the settings to turn that off.

You will still see display ads, they just won't be based on your previous browsing history.
