slick2526
I have always stuck with fireline Micro ice. But I see some other competitors on the market such as suffix, and Powerpro. I have always like powerpro line in general for summer use. Any of you had any experience with the powerpro, or suffix? How do you like it compared to fireline?I tend to run 2lb on my noodle rods, 4lb on my other panfish rods, 6 on most of my walleye rods, and 8lb on my main jigging spoon rod. bopper4
I don't have experience with others but I have been running powerpro for the last 3/4 winters on all my ice rods and love it! I still respooled every year but have never had a problem. I run 6 or 8 lb.
ice_medic
I have used both and loved them both. They have worked great for me and I will say that the suffix did a little better job at not icing up.
Mike Stark
PowerPro slick works pretty good.
live4chrome
I like the power pro better, have tried the other. Btw micro ice is just regular fire line. It's a marketing scheme.
fishing tech
I tried suffix 2 lb. It was worthless. kept braking while trying to tie and when I would get a jig tied it would brake on hook set. Will never use again or ever recommend that line.

slick2526
i will most likely just stick with the fireline. I have had great luck with it so far and from what you guys are saying I see no reason to change now.
noska
Anyone try northland blue camo?
Northlander
I have had good luck with PP and Suffix 832. The suffix ice braid is good but I dont worry about icing "ice" lines too much because I only use superlines in the house and mono when out in the cold. dirtymike
I've wandered away from fireline a few times and always come back to it. If you're out in the bitter cold, hole hopping, you're bound to get some iced up guides. Pay attention to your equipment and you'll be fine. I know everyone, including myself, is looking for that next product that will make something easier but attention to detail is something you can't get away from. That being said, I had a lot of problems with suffix line. Not sure if I spooled it incorrectly, but it had a ridiculous amount of memory. As soon as you would open the bail, it would rocket off of the reel. I'll stick with fireline and add a fluoro leader when the bite gets tough. I am not against using a mono type line during the summer I normally have some 6lb spooled on my panfish rods, and some 8lb on a walleye rod. BUT I have yet to find a mono line that I have been impressed with the performance under 4lb test. To me how thin of diameter line I want, what lb test its rated, and line memory just isnt that great with some pound test mono. At least not on a noodle type rod anyways. harvey lee
Micro ice here and I have been happy with that specie.
Kyle
I like fluorocarbon on my pan fish rods due to the very little stretch and its ability to disappear. In the last 2 years I have started using braid a few walleye rods and have been pleased. Avoiding stretch on the hook set is most important to me. NCLaker
But which one has the best resistance to icing up when you are hole hopping in colder temps??I get a little icing on my mono, but it easily strips off. Tried Fireline once and it iced up so bad it was pretty much worthless (but for summer I use it on all my jigging rods w/ floro leader). If I cannot find a brad/fused that does not have this problem in cold temps then it is pretty much a deal breaker for me ... I'll stick with Mono or hyprid like PLine floroice (normal floro is too stiff imo - creates a problem with those small spinning reel spools). Does it have at least a little bit of memory so it doesnt just unspool by itself with the bail open? Thats the problem I have always had with that type of line. Is that strong type of co polymer/floro lines that they always want to unspool by themselves. It really becomes a PITA it seems if there is any wind at all. NCLaker
Floroice from Pline is not a pure florocarbon line so does not have the issues with stiffness (jumping off spool) like floroecarbon lines. Here is the description from Pline "Floroice is a combination of copolymer with a silicon fluorocarbon coating. This unique blend resists freezing, and stays limp in the coldest of conditions. When you're heading out to hard water, there is only one line of choice, Floroice." I tend not to use it for my panfish jigging rods - it is clear so I have a hard time seeing it out on the ice on jigging rods where I will do a lot of retieing. So for those I have gone with colored Berkley ice line in 2-3#, I don't seem to have significant issues with color hindering my catch success. I use the Floroice as a leader for my rods I use for spoons, and swimming baits like jiggin raps. I put a small swivel between the main line and the leader to eliminate line twists. For my walleye rods & dead stick I use this as my main line since I don't retie as much with these - go with 5-6# on these for if used for panfish mainline 3#. One other thing I do, is no matter how many different ways I spool my winter reels with new line, I seem to get line twists which is a big PITA. So late summer-fall, I have resorted to taking all my ice rods out on the boat after respooling then letting all the line out while I am going at idle speed then reel back in. Problem solved

Fluoro has more stretch than any mono on the market. Sorry I don't have a link handy but do a quick google search and you find that info.
