OK, re-spawn, spawn or post-spawn

With the real opener next weekend, what "stage" will the largemouth be in?

The water is still cool, so are we behind as far as spawning?

I know that LMs can be in all three stages right now, but where are they most likely to be?

Pre-spwan, post spawn, spawn?

My guess pre-spawn/spawn?

What is your best guess and why?

If I had to guess I would say YES

Again opener is NOT next weekend its 2 weekends away..

and I would say that most fish will be PRE-spawn, some will be in Spawn and its possible for a fefw fish to be POST-spawn...A lot can happen between now and the 29th.. I would guess most to be in the starting stages and pre-spawn...

Yea, it is tough to guess at this point. It depends a lot on the weather and what the water temps do over the next two weeks. I'd guess there will be fish in all 3 stages -pre, post, and spawn.

Based on my observations this weekend I noticed MANY fish on the bed or starting to move up in the clear/cool lakes where the water temps were upper 50's.

The last couple of weeks on murkier lakes, where the temps have been in the 60's, I have observed bass on the beds frequently when chasing the sunnies.

So, based on this, I would assume that depending on the water clarity, you will most likely be in POST-spawn for the most part, unless you are in a really cool water lake. I know there are some bass that spawn later, but I will be after the post-spawners in a couple of weeks.

Good luck all!

I'm thinking the same as everyone else - there will probably be some in each stage. The weather will really help determine how fast the water starts to heat up - the forecast says highs in the upper 60's/low 70's and lows in the upper 40's and low 50's with a lot of rain showers for the next two weeks. To me, that says that the water is going to warm, but not as quickly and if it stays on the cooler side, chances are the fish will be in the pre-spawn to early spawn. And that mean great fishing and your best bet for huge bass because the larger bass usually spawn earlier than the other fish.

Too early to tell, just a quick forecast/opinion which will likely change as the next two weeks shape up.

These next two weeks are killer, the wait for bass opener is rough - that is why I go down to Pool 2 for legal early season bassin grin.gif

Considering last year, I pulled alot of fish off their beds. They were sitting right in front the Green Cattails. Correct me if I'm wrong. And I posted the results last year on this site smile.gif....And I'm still here.

Hopefully this opener will be just as productive as last year.

All of the above. Also, it depends where the lake is located. Like if I go north to Atkin they will be prespawn and spawn. If in the cites it should be spawn and post spawn.

However, I haven't been on a lake yet since the ice went out. And my Merc is getting fixed (should be back later this week WOO!)

Last opener I was up north. The water was still pretty cool and all the fish we caught were up in the creeks around new pads, beaver dams, wood, and other structure. The next week they were all out of the creeks in the mouths under pad fields and weed edges. All the fish opener were caught on white tubejigs, the next weekend senkos were hot. Really depends what the water is like on opener, but I'll be eyeing similar spots, but be prepared to move till you find the fish.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
