Truck Loading ramps

Went cheap and bought a set of ramps for my 05 2500HD Chevy. Talk about scary when half way up you see the ramps stating to shift. On the way down, you can see the ramps starting to slide from underneath. Needless to say, one time was enough for me. So I am looking for some suggestions on what to get next. Being a 3/4 ton tuck sits a little high.

I think you can purchase ramps in various length. If your truck sits too high maybe a longer ramp would be to your liking. Didn't your ramps have safety cables/chains? They should. I wouldn't attempt loading without some means to strap the ramps to the vehicle.

Use 4-wheel drive when loading too as this will make it easy to load nice and easy without worrying about spinning the rear tires.

You should have some straps that go from the ramp and connect to your hitch where you put your safety chains. Do NOT use ramps without some sort of strap!!! All kinds of bad can happen.

I am assuming the ramps you bought are a bi or tri fold design that would be the width of your bed???

If it didnt come with straps, just get some lashing straps and make your own. This will keep the ramp from moving or trying to shoot out from under you.

There should be some rigid metal on these ramps (angle iron or aluminum) that you can drill a hole in each one near the end that sits on your tail gate.

Go to the local hardware store and buy 2 eye bolts, 4 washers and 4 nuts. Now you'll have something to tie off to.

I have a set of YUTRAX that I got from L&M. I think they are 92" long, they have a strap that attaches in the center of the ramp and the underside of the bumper. I have a FX4 that sits a little high and I load a 800X2 easily. I think they were around $150.

I picked up 2-7' scaffold planks off of the list real cheap ($45). I think there like 20" wide and work excellent they have the hooks on the ends that dig in the dirt so there's no movement at all. I then slide them right under the wheeler for storage during travel.

One of the downsides from today's super lifted trucks. Not only can you no longer reach over the side of the bed to grab something and struggle to step up into the bed, you have problems like these where it becomes a pain to get a ATV or snowmobile loaded up. I really hope future trucks do not get any more lifted than they are today.

Aluminum scaffold plank? I had one and split it in two. Works great. Still use tie-downs though. When you approach the ramps the wheeler could push the truck forward some and the ramps will slip off the truck.

Probably a bit different. I hope you read my post as I intentionally split one in two, to make two ramps out of one wide one. It was easy to take one apart and saw no need to have such wide ramps.
