K_Josh87
Whats a good, comfortable, lightweight climbing tree stand? Looking to possibly buy one for the convenience of mobility... but i have had a cheapo and it left a little to be desired for simplicity and comfort... going4it
Tough to beat a lone wolf. They are expensive but light. I don't know if you will find anyone that will complain about buying one. Only regret is not getting the wide sit and climb.
Siwulat
Summit are also really nice. Sturdy, light, plenty of room, and easy to use.
Powerstroke
I would agree that Summit and Lone Wolf are the two tops. Price is pretty comparable, but the LW's are getting more expensive. I still they are better and it shows because most of the companies are copying their design ideas.Dollar for dollar the Summit is a great stand. Walleyehooker
Just bought a LW climber the other day but havnt tried it yet. Looks well built compared to others and has a large platform to stand on yet pretty light weight and packs up easily. Not sure the sit and climbs are that good for archery and the reviews seem to suggest they can be a little more noisy. They definitely aren't cheap but I had a coupon at the C store that saved me some money.
K_Josh87
thanks guys. any more input is welcome, intent is to bow hunt mainly from this stand... I really have gotten to like ladder stands, but think this may be a good option for a mobile stand...
MNHunter65
I have a Summit Viper that is great. It packs easy and is very comfortable. If you get one, get the Third Hand Archery Stabilizer Straps and bow holder. The stabilizer straps make the Summit rock solid in the tree and the bow holder is nice too. I also put on military surplus Molle shoulder straps and waist belt, which makes hauling the stand and gear a breeze.
K_Josh87
I picked up a lone wolf tonight at the S store in Kato, Went in to look at thet only had one up for display, and they then mentioned the had a LW up top, but only one, and told me a price, and when he came back with it, he said he told me 30$ less than it actually was, so he would honor the price... so, I ended up taking it home at a decent buy I think... tried it on a 6x6 post at home, not quite big enough... but I am also building an insulated tower right now, so it was available to at least set the stand up, and get it a few feet up... seems nice... I agree, I might wish I had a wider one, but I think it will be OK...
going4it
Congrats on the purchase. I would recommend getting a different seat (unless they have changed them in the last 5 years) because they are not very comfortable. Good luck with it. huntnfish
I'm sure you will be happy with that stand. I've got a Summit and I love it. It is by far the most comfortable stand I've used. It is a little tougher to bowhunt out of but its a small trade off. The biggest thing I hear from people about climbers is you'll never find a tree to use it in but I've never not been able to find a tree to climb with it. I have had to be a little more selective and I've had to trim some small branches but its nice to have the extra mobility.
K_Josh87
well, the story goes like this... The ol man got a wild hair to try shooting bow a couple weekends ago... (he has deer hunted two days in his entire life) so I took him down to archery shop in Kasota, and he shot a regular compound, but with a bad shoulder that took it out of him big time... and lo and behold he finds out at 60, you can now use a cross bow... long story short... he's now the proud owner of a new ten point cross bow,a dozen bolts, a spyderweb target, and a host of other supplies... and landed permission on a very promising farm close to home for both of us... I took him out, bought him a nice comfortable two man stand... looked at google maps image and told him where I though the pinch point/travel area would be... took him out and lo and behold there is a deer highway right there... so set his stand up and put cameras out... now he has his shooting lanes cut, and last night saw 8 does come through...The other promising spot is a long walk with crop in, and I would prefer to set and see where they move in the area as it is much more wide open timber with no pinch point/funnel near, but close to where I think they are bedding...So, thats why i chose a climber... don't want to drag a ladder stand in there yet... and have real good trees there... hopefully i find sometime to get out there... pops is like a kid in a candy store... pretty neat to watch him!Hopefully the old dog can learn some new tricks! I,m thinking about pulling the trigger on that one.
going4it
The sit and climb has a hammock seat and a back while the climber is just the seat connected to the frame. I've used both and wouldn't trade my sit and climb. More comfy and feel safer in it.
K_Josh87
I bought the sit and climb, for my little experience with a climber, its nice... I still prefer my ladder stands though... but for a mobile stand its nice
Jarrid Houston
I just bought a new LOne Wolf Sit n climb combo II, used it and love it. It is 100 percent better than what I was doing (which was dragging a ladder stand out all the time). Loved having te ladder when it was set up but it was a $&@):;$? To set up n take down. The climber is lighter and packs real nice with like a 5" profile or something? The only thing is I can be time consuming, but I'm sure I'll get better at it. I do recommend upgrading the harness. The one that comes with it seems to be just like all the other cheaper 6 pt harnesses that come with a stand when you buy a new one!
harvey lee
I along with others I hunt with have used the Lone Wolf for years. One cannot go wrong with the quality in this brand stand and comfortable, yes they are. You can adjust the seat to the height you would like.I have the wide sit ands climb and it is wide and roomy.
