Search Baits

What do you guys like for search baits this time of year. I'm heading to a new body of water and looking for some ideas

the lil minnows from spring are bigger minnows now.

Lipless cranks have always been my go to Searchbait. I know many folks won't touch them in the summer but I still seem to get bit. Also if target large weed flats a spinnerbait or chatterbait are very effective.

For me, Lipless cranks, squarebills and spinnerbaits work good for checking out new lakes and covering water this time of the year. Some days you may have to slow down with other stuff to put more fish in the boat, but other days those baits can work all day.

What types of areas are you looking for to throw the big swimbaits? Hard bottoms outside weed edges? Rocks? Looking for fish or baitfish on the sonar?

All of the above.

Slow roll them parallel to deep weedlines, over deep rock points.

Rig them with this technique to prevent bite offs from Pike.

This might go against the horizontal theme, but this time of year I would throw a jig worm personally.

I really like strike king series 5 cranks. Fish every ten foot weed line or drop with them.

Do you fish the swim senko more like a traditional senko or just a straight retrieve?

Juan, I fish it with a straight retrieve and sometimes a stop and go or twitch like a jerkbait. Solicits some hard hits.

I fish it both ways. I like ticking the tops of the weeds better on humps but working it off the drop off works great two! Depends on the day. Gotta let the fish tell you

Another quick question, any tricks for keepint the hollow belly from sliding down the hook on the swimbait jig? I tried super glue with minimal success.

I use the Hitch Series keepers. Work perfectly on the Squadron Series Swimbait Head from Strike King.
