Green live night crawlers?

Used these green night crawlers they sell at the bait shop many times last year.Seems I catch fewer fish with them. What's the selling point of them? Its not like it says on the container why they dyed them and what they are.I looked online for info and only really found other ppl asking too.

I really only buy them when the bait shop it out of regular crawlers.

Same reason they color the foot that maggots eat, to make "euro larvae". You can buy what -- red, blue, white, green, or mixed euro larvae? Some folks, at least some of the time, think that they catch more fish when they're colored.

There was a little side-bar story in Field & Stream this month about how to make your own. I've never tried them but may give them a shot while bottom fishing in the river this year. I suppose anything in mucky water that might set it apart from the rest of the leaf litter, branches and garbage on the bottom couldn't hurt...

That's good to know Cliff. Good reason not to buy them.

When it comes to crawlers I really think the whole bite is triggered by smell, flavor, etc., not color. But I could be wrong.

But as always, shiny cool looking baits typically aren't designed to catch fish. They're designed to catch fishermen! wink

Hello! Use green in brown water and brown in green water! Well mostly I think there's 2 colors because some people feel they need both and then they sell more. Same thing with lures if they sell, the company has done their job.

I agree fully! I do like to add an attractor bead or two and at times a small colored foam float ahead of the hook. These added colors DO seem to help or at times hinder the bite!

I tried a few of the green crawlers when they first showed up on the market. I saw absolutely no benefit by using them over regular crawlers. They are very messy and stain every thing that they touch green!

+1… Prepare to get the stuff all over your boat, tackle, clothes. I've found them to be no more effective than regular crawlers. Besides, where I fish, crawlers are usually one of my go-tos for finesse fishing. If I want flashy colors, I may as well use a plastic that is more durable and less messy.
