C season has been just unreal. I have worked my tail off and was able to get two other birds onto us in this mess but crooked barrels had my co-hunters missing chip shots! I do know that I will be doing the archery tag from now on. Just be nice to have all that time to get after a bird! I'm taking a couple youngens out this weekend and then I head west again so the weather can change any day!

They are hanging out in the same spot as always across from that driveway where I hunt. I haven't got a email from Linda about helping out, however I think that is the weekend of my best friends bachelor party.

I pulled the chip on my camera and checked it when I got home today and the turkey population has went up in the back yard with 6 new jakes that have showed up. The big tom was has been out the last 2 days at 7 pm. I went to go set my blind and hunt however when I came around the corner in the corn field they were all standing around. Instead of spooking them and hunting I pulled back and will set the blind after dark tonight. I feel like I might have a cold and may not be able to go to work tomorrow wink

Hunter and I made it out a few mornings and a couple afternoon hunts. We went out last friday around 5:30 and set up.Around 6:30 the neighbor was walking past us yelling at his dog they kept walking and Hunter and I talked about leaving to go scouting but opted to stay.A little before 7:00 we heard a gobble to our east not far away made a few yelps and he gobbled heading our way. Waited a couple minutes and called again the gobble was within 60 yards of us.I told Hunter to get ready.... then the tom stepped out into the field. He strutted up and came towards the decoy at a fast pace. I asked Hunter if he was on him......YEP.....I said whenever your ready.BOOM! Hunter's turkey laid on the ground.#19.1 lbs. 3/4" spurs 10" beard....

Just letting you know I'm still after them,I almost got a crack at a nice tom yesterday morning however he played the brush and lay of the land perfect. I had him strutting and gobbling his head off for 2 hours most of the time inside of 35 yards but couldn't get a clear shot at him.

Here is my recap of WI. The birds were experienced, to say the least. I called in 3 different hens, but all were alone. My last evening, Friday, I called in one hen, that turned into 3 hens around my decoy. I had a buck with new growth come to within 5 feet while watching the hens. Pretty cool experience. I heard a distant gobble, then another. They were up on a ridge about 200 yards away. I figured he was going to stay up there, but after the hens moved off I did a little cut and he gobbled 40 yards to my right. There was 2 gobblers, one all strutted up, and one just walking around eating. They were on my off shoulder behind brush, but I could see them getting closer. I had my gun on my decoy ready, but he would not leave the woods. The one casually walked away, but the strutter was in full show. He went behind a big tree and I tried to get my gun to my left shoulder. While doing this my glove got caught and I was stuck mid switch. He came out of from behind the tree still strutted up, now at 20 yards. He went behind another tree and I continued to switch and take off the safety in one motion, but he caught movement and started to move... quick. I got the gun on him at 25 yards and boom, he kept going. Got him dead to rights at 45 yards, an easy distance with my gun, and boom. He kept going. Both shots were with my off hand, but I was on him both times. Not sure what went wrong, but he lives to fluff another day.

It was the best 2 hours of turkey hunting I have had. Constant action, but no bird to bring out in the end. The birds fewer than the last couple years, but both of us should have tagged out. Stars just didn't line up for me this time.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
