Meat-Run
I'm sure this been asked but looking at a 2001 Mercury 225 w rpm gauge not working does this mean something wrong or going bad? Also I remember hearing that certain year mercury Optimax motors had power head issues would model fall into that issue years? By the way it's not and opti and it is an EFI. Any history on these motors would be great to hear about.Thx MR
delcecchi
The bass boat guys were/are big users of the EFI 2strokes.
BartmanMN
I can tell you that my 2003 Optimax has a Brown wire under the cowling that controls the RPM gauge on my dash. I forgot to connect that once after doing some work and did not have RPM. Pulled the cowling, plugged the male into female plug for the brown wires and it worked again. h8go4s
does this mean something wrong or going bad? It means your rpm gauge (tachometer) quit working. Nothing catastrophic. The motor will run fine without it.
gunner55
The tach on our '02 Crestliner FH with a Yamaha 115 hasn't worked exactly right for a little over a year.It does work right most of the time then all of a sudden it will jump up a 1000/1500 rpm or not work at all, then boom all of a sudden it looks & sounds(motor) right again. It all started after sitting out in a couple of pretty heavy rain storms.I read on here of somebody taking some di-electric grease & applying it to the ends under the console. fishingstar
Is it charging? when my tach stop working I found that the rectifier was bad. That was a 96 75hp mercury.Dan
