Bucket List Fulfillment

Every so often a bucket list thread is posted. I'm just wondering how many people have actually gotten the chance to fish their bucket list lake/river(s)? And was it everything they had hoped it would be?

In recent history I've been able to check lake of the woods, chequamegon bay, and chippewa flow age off my list. Lake of the woods was nothing short of awesome! And it's become an annual ice fishing trip. The other 2 I plan on returning, but definitely need to learn the waters better.

My bucket list, as with everyone else is probably never ending. As I check one off the list, I replace it with a new body of water I want to visit smile

Over the last 40 years I had many fishing experiences including salt trips on the Pacific, Alantic and Gulf of Mexico. I've also had the opportunity to fish Ontario countless times, Alaska several times and many areas in the Northwest, Rocky Mtns, central plains and some southern states. One idea that I've had is catch one of each of the 2 dozen or so different game fish living in the waters within 150 miles of the Duluth, MN area during one open water season March to November freeze up. Some fish like walleyes, LM and SM bass, northern, crappies will be easy, but there are losts of others like steelhead, kamploops, rainbows, splake, brookies, musky, lake sturgeon, etc. will take some specific effort. There are also some roughfish I want to bowfish for. I've caught many of these species before just not in the same season. I really been thinking about getting this project off my list beginning in March.

Yep, I know what you mean.

I have a "realistic" bucket list and then a "probably not going to happen" bucket list. I've been lucky enough to check a few items off the "realistic" list, but the unrealistic one just keeps getting longer.

Yeah, most of my unrealistic ones are international and/or highly remote and therefore very expensive. I got to check an unrealistic one off the list two summers ago, but with as much as I spent on that trip, I could've taken a lifetime of trips to Red and LOTW or two trips a year for ten years to Alaska.

I'm curious...where did you go that cost you the equivelant of 20 AK trips?? I've got some pretty expensive trips bouncing around in my head, but short of maybe a 2 week trip to Aussie land to try for grander blacks, I can't see any of them approaching a pricetag like that!

I crossed off an 8 foot white sturgeon on the Columbia River and Lake Winnipeg greenbacks recently. I would really like to catch a tarpon but that will wait for a while. Believe it or not my son (8) is developing a bucket list. I think that I am going to enjoy putting my bucket list to the side and work on crossing off things on his bucket list. Last year we were able to get him a 40 inch Minnesota pike. This year he is hoping for a musky or 28 in walleye. Should be fun I can't wait.

Lake Winnipeg is on my list, I mainly only fish for walleyes. Although I would also like to catch a Zander over in Europe. A 30" walleye was always on top of the list but I caught one this year on Mille Lacs but I doubt it was 10 lbs. A true 30" walleye that weighs 10+ is on the top of the list. Maybe the Rainy River spring trip as well. I like this topic, it is great to hear what is on others lists! The great thing is that when they often accomplish them, they take pics and post them on here and I can live vicariously through them.
