Who here is a cert. DNR Master Angler?

I count about 19 species that I would have qualified for, and only 1 has been through the ice (Black Crappie).

Some of those requirements are just plain silly though.

Freshwater Drum (sheepshead).  30”   I caught a 28” that was almost 20lbs and the biggest ugliest smelliest danm sheepie I’ve laid eyes on… and it wouldn’t qualify.  LOL

Flathead Catfish 33”.   LOL I’ve been a Grand Master (5 released qualifying fish) in a single night.

Channel Catfish 30”.  A little more realistic, but still an easy one.

Lake Trout 34”.  That is a pretty tough one in MN I think.

Brown Bullhead 20”   Uh….OK crazy

Thats impressive already Dtro. Were all your qualifying fish weighed on a certified scale? I also understand that not everyone can be a master angler...but you're right...some of it is down right impossible. And who catches a 20" bullhead? LOL

I guess thats why i'm curious...is it REALLY possible? If I got it, i'd down right put it on my resume!

Through the ice have caughr a crappie, gill, eyeball, pout, rockie, and tullibee big enough to qualify. Open water....all the above except tullie and pout, as well as a channel, carp, dogfish, redhorse, yellow bullhead, and probably white sucker and largemouth. Have not cared enough to register either, have plenty of other paperwork waiting for me BECAUSE I go fishing....dont need anymore wink

I am sure I have iced 6-7 fish claases that would qualify, maybe more, many more for open water. I went into thier site and believe I could qualify for 20, maybe 21 but my memory is not sure on one specie, Hybrid walleye.

I have never filled out a form for even one fish, not that big of a deal to me, I remember the fish and that is good enough for me.

great if someone wnats to fill the paperwork out and get the title, but for me, don't care.

Huh - never heard of that before. I'll pass on the paperwork though...

I sat down and counted 17 species that I've caught that meet the qualifications. Another 2 species that I've probably topped but don't have official measurements on. A few more that I've topped in WI but not in MN.

Agreed on the bizarre spectrum on sizes though... 33" Flathead or 12" Hog Sucker isn't a big deal. But yeah, good luck on that 20" Brown Bully...

None through the ice for me though (yet anyway). The only ones I've probably even gotten even remotely close on through the ice would be Burbot and Pike. Guess I suck at ice fishing...

Um, correct me if I'm wrong - I don't think that's 'his' list there guys. If you'll notice there is a different weight for adults on left and youths on right. I have to do paper work for work- no thanks when I'm fishing unless it's to wipe. LOL

Keep in mind this is since I was like 5 years old. LOL. For example I caught a 22" smallie on Vermilion when I was like 7 or 8 years old. Muskie and Tulibee were also Vermilion fish when I was pretty young. Rock Bass, White Sucker and Mooneye on the tiny Rice River of all places.

Back to the original question though, still only 1 out of the 27 through the ice.

I've got Largemouth, Smallmouth, Pike, and Black Crappie that would have gotten a certificate but like said not really interested in filling out paperwork, memories are enough for me.

The Crappie was through the ice.
