Iceman1026
We have plans to go to URL leaving this fir and coming home wed. We would be pulling our own wheel house up from southern MN looks like after sat up there it's going to be extremely cold at nights -25 to-30 was just thinking of all the things that can go wrong with them temps not to mention the 7 hour drive pulling the house home. Just looking for others opinion thanks
leech~~
Throw some Isopropyl in the tank and keep some in there each tank full of the trip. Park the truck out of the wind which maybe high if it's that cold out if you can on the side of the house and start the truck every few hours during the night. Bring a back up sun flower heater in case the one in the house dies, make sure cell phones are charged and get the number to the resort you are going out of before you head out on to the lake! Good luck!
boXCar JiggY
That cold, I dont go, have fun but for me thats jsut to cold, more pronlems arise an harder on equipment. Bring a double sunflower, extra tanks, try an block the wind to the tanks, propane dont like to work in such colextreams, yull go thru a half tank an all of suden the furnace will go out. this is an example of what could happen not say it will, Id pull my truck batterie an keep it inside. park house exhaust down wind. let people know where yu are resort ect.. stay home, too cold. alot more work when its that cold, good luck have fun stay safe. Alagnak
Too cold to ice fish eh? Lol The next thing I'll read is the water is too wet to launch the boat. ;-)Yeah- chit happens to your gear in 10 degrees or -20, it's just part of the game. I'd rather be in an ice house in -20 than looking out the window from the couch when it's -20 but that's just me. And I HAVE had some good bites during some cold snaps once and a while too. gonehunting
Check your CO detector batteries to prevent a tragedy. You'll be running that heat a lot.
bigshooter23
well if one has the generator along I have done this in the past. bring cord to plug truck in. bring a battery booster to plug in. even have brought electric space heater. propane freezes easily in those temps so keep one tank maybe under a bench or out of the elements at least. also isopropyl in your generator. resorts will help the most they can also. I would swear my Mom typed your reply. Living in Northern MN if you stayed home everyday it was -20 you never do anything and not have a job because they would fire you for not showing up. It has been -20 or -30 many mornings the last few weeks and all of our vehicles sit outside every night and we don't pull the batteries or even plug them in. If you have good gear and good back up gear there is nothing to worry about. We are going up to LOTW and didn't even think twice when we saw the temps. blue_healer_guy
bring an extra regulator and run the biggest tank of lp you have. something metal like a coffee can to set on your heater, when hot give each hole alittle to help with freeze ups. boXCar JiggY
She did. to each their own, old enough to have been their done that enough times before your left mommas teet to know that cold ups the difficulty level, try doing those temps without all the fancy gear their is today, he wanted opinions I gave it. Quite frankly all the opinons an advise an back up gear an what he can expect an he should do in case of this or that. Jeeze I dont know what dose that sound like. big difference between a truck sitting in the drive exposed an sitting out on a frozen lake exposed. Have fun, Ill sit back an laugh at all the whinny posts of how equipment failed.
2thepointsetters
big difference between a truck sitting in the drive exposed an sitting out on a frozen lake exposed. wind speed doesn't effect temp on metal or other inanimate objects . Doesn't make a difference where you park when its -20. Sorry your car doesn't feel wind chill
Iceman1026
Yep think im goin to just wait to go being not a big deal with work getting days off. TyGuy02
Have fun. It would take half a hardware store to supply extra parts and tools that might be needed if you think of every possible thing that "could" go wrong. Bring plenty of warm gear and any extra tools and equipment you have room for but don't let the what ifs deter you from having a good time. Remember there are a TON of other fisherman that will be nearby and will always help another in need.
CAMAN
Bring a propane tank inside to keep it warm and plug the truck in. Pop open a brew and enjoy the fishing. Bringing a propane tank indoors like that could result in an explosion. When propane goes through major temperature swings like that it expands, for safety the tanks have pressure relief valves on them that allows them to safely relieve the pressure. Problem is, they release propane, when outside it's usually no big deal, when indoors and near an open flame....BOOM
