foulpole18
Hey guysi just got a nils auger and was wondering the best way to break it in before using?
Surface Tension
The more the engine is run, the more power you'll notice it has.In my experience it takes darn near a full season. Coarse that depends on how many holes you drill and how often. I wouldn't be that concerned about break in time, that will happen eventually. For the 1st tank or so mix the fuel per manufacturers recommendation. After that a lot of guys are using Amzoil Saber as noted in this thread. Biggest thing is to take care of the blades. Don't let them touch anything but clean ice and they will cut for a long time. Put the guard on when your done drilling your holes. Oil the cutting edge during storage or long periods on non use. A lot of Nils owners don't like the guard that comes with the blade. Cold Snap makes a cover that is easier to put on and take off and seems to stay on better. The price of that cover is about what your going to pay to have your blade sharpened, well worth the money.
foulpole18
Thanks surface for the info. I thought a few years ago guys were doing different things to break them in
Jim Almquist
That Cold Snap cover is one of the best investments besides my Nils. Easy on and off and protects the blade!!! walleye44
fishinnut_3446
Really Jim ? I bought one of those last yr.just to have the cover come off and dulled one side of the blade and cut like defecate! I broke mine in by running a tank full of 50/1 at idle and now and then give it some throttle when the tank was done I mixed 100/1 Amsoil. Nigel
I used Amsoil Sabre after having troubles with an auger stalling out or not starting in enough pulls. After using Sabre, it was like a different auger. Didn't stall anymore and started within a couple pulls. Its magic in a bottle.
