Early Bass C&R Season

From the Facebook group Minnesotans for an Early Bass Fishing Season

Vern Wagner Post yesterday:

May 5th 2014 Update on Early Season. Here is the current information from the DNR, this is not particularly the best news, since it might mean the adoption of the rule will take longer:

"We are waiting to hear back from the ALJ on the dual notice. They still have 30 working days to respond. Once we get the sign off from them, we will post it in the register for comments and hearing requests".

What this means is that once the ALJ (Administrative Law Judge) signs off on it, the DNR can post it on the State Register and a comment period will be established. If there is a challenge to the Rule (all it takes is 25 signatures) then it goes back to the ALJ. This Rule has many facets, Bass season, Muskie length limit, Catfish season closure, Sturgeon C&R season; are just a few. The criticism of the DNR rule making process is that too much gets tied together and any challenges to one part, bogs the whole package down. At this point there is little we can do but wait, fingers crossed.

Who what huh? I'm confused... Anyway... I have been pretty clear on my opinions on this.. I don't hate our seasons, I feel that part of the reason we have such great fishing, is because of them. However, if things change, I will for sure take advantage of the opportunity. I'd love to be proved wrong, I'd love for season to open up earlier, and people fish for them earlier and have it not affect our fishing in anyway.. I will be the very first to say I was wrong.

Pure paranoia. I'll be out 'trying' for Crappie on Saturday. I sure 'hope' I don't catch any buckets...'accidentally'.

This is why I wouldn't do it myself ("accidentally" catch bass) but when I see others swinging around their Senko's and Sweet Beaver's (LOL) I just look the other way. Wisconsin people are catching bass as we speak while we have to wait until Memorial Weekend. It's not a good feeling. WHy? Why do we have to wait? Where are the empirical data to suggest that a later bass opener equates to better fisheries? Because all my best bassing days have been in Eau Claire and Chippewa County where they fish for bedding bass ....... OOOOOOOOOOoooooooOOOOOOOO the bass are still there and stronger than MN! Explain that!

I hope bass fishing dies a slow and painful death. I think it already is.

Here's the package guys. Comment period will be in June:

Trout regulations

· Open trout lakes in Becker, Beltrami, Cass, Crow Wing, and Hubbard counties to winter trout fishing. Little Andrus (Snowshoe Lake), Cass Co; Allen and Pleasant Lakes, Crow Wing Co.; and Bad Medicine Lake, Becker Co. will remain closed to winter fishing.

Other Game Fish Regulations

· New statewide catch and release seasons for bass and sturgeon

· 50” minimum size limit statewide for pure strain muskie

· Open Spring Lake, Itasca Co to whitefish netting

· Restrictions on where nets can be placed for smelting on Grindstone

· Close the taking of flathead catfish during the winter

Border Waters

· Changes to simplify, provide additional opportunities, make changes that are consistent with the Minnesota inland regulations, or make consistent with the bordering state's regulations for Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Canada

· Clarify the no-culling rule

Others

· Require a barb on arrows used for bowfishing

· Remove obsolete and redundant rules for bowfishing, aquatic plant control of lotus, Take a Kid Fishing, Mink and Somers Lakes (Wright County), and licensing requirements.

· Technical changes for Lake Superior rules to clarify that the lake proper is included as part of the existing rules.

· Technical changes that move rule language from one part to another for consolidation or clarification: Annie Battle (Ottertail County), La Salle (Hubbard County), Moody Creek (Itasca County), and Pike River (St. Louis and Carlton County)

As DTRO posted, the comment period will be during June. Barring any major kick back, it's a go. As I've posted earlier, we don't suffer from recruitment in central MN (with very few exceptions). It is an opportunity to increase the recreation potential without harming the fabulous fisheries we have and should go through for the walleye/pike and Bass C&R opener (2015) season. Looking forward to this!!! grin

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
