I have an older slt model, guessing around 10 years old or more. When I tried using it today there wereno lights on the dial. I can hear it running so its not a power issue. Anybody ever have this happen before? Not sure if its time for me to shop for electronics? Couldn't find anything online troubleshooting search.

Felt absolutely helpless out there on the ice without one. Have a up camera but once a school of panniers moved thru and stirred up bottom the camera was of no value.

Sounds like the transducer could be bad.

Your should still have a light at the top even if your transducer is bad, you just wouldn't get a bottom reading light. Sounds like the bulb may have had it. Did you try turning the gain up to max to see if you got any lights flickering at all? confused

I read the Manual, http://vexilar.com/parts/pdf/vexilar_fl-8.pdf, and it says battery voltage may be too low. The unit will show no display if the voltage is below 10 volts.

Check your battery Voltage w/ volt meter. Maybe also put the charger on it then turn it on to try to get it >10 volts.

I would lean toward the battery as well. It will provide enough power to make it sound like it is operating, but not enough to spin the motor for the brushes.

If your battery output is fine, I would then say it is the brushes. Definitely doesn't sound like a ducer issue.

The number one cause of failure is the battery. Other than that it could be the transducer. Check the cable thoroughly for nicks.

On a positive note you finally have an excuse to get a new Vexilar! grin

It was the battery. Thanks for the great advice! Guess no new electronics for me quite yet.

[husband yelling across house]: Honey! You know that 10 year old Flasher that I have? Well, it stopped working. I'm going to buy a new one on Friday at the Ice Fishing show.
