Cancel the stadium

Well, a few games ago we got destroyed by a team with 1 win. Tonight, a team with no wins, destroy's them again. If the Giants had any offense at all, they would have beat the Vikes by 30 easily.

Is this team even worth the money spent for a new stadium?? With 4 minutes left, the offense has not scored 1 point.

One might question if the Vikes can win another game this season.

They are a complete joke.

How much are we spending to build this team and the Wilf's a new stadium and for what?

Where were you and the other band wagon jumpers when logic was actually needed in the stadium conversation and not just a video of Larry Spooner with face paint on? What the heck does the team's record have to do with needing a stadium? They didn't need one at any point leading up to now, and they don't NEED or DESERVE one if they were 12-0 either.

They still need a new stadium. needing a stadium has nothing to do with wins and losses. without one we loose the team. say what you will... let them go, blah blah blah, but I for one don't want them too go, and neither does any other TRUE Vikings fan, not bandwagon jumpers. like my mom used to say " this too shall pass"! it just needs to pass sooner rather than later!

3 hours a day, 8 times a year. They don't NEED a new stadium. They WANT a new stadium. Anyone that feels they NEED one can pay for it. Let the rest of us get out of the mess. Last time I checked the dome had the same size field as every other stadium. I don't know what the problem is. Billionaire welfare. They NEED to leave before we NEED a stadium.

I am far from a bandwagon jumper. I just get tired of the rich thinking the tax payers need to foot any part of the bill for them to play thier games and increase thier wealth.

I doubt I have missed a game in the past 10 years.

If the Wilf's were putting a solid team on the field and winning games, then I might be for this stadium but they have not shown they are willing to hire good coaches and put forth a great effort.

I wonder what the team value will be when Ziggy get's his new stadium?

I realize it is not about thier wins but if you feel tax payers should foot part of the bill, you as the owner at a minimum, could field a respectable team.

Stadium or no stadium.... leave or don't leave I could care less either and all ways. I do find it funny that when it comes to pro sports everybody says let those who want it pay for it!!

In taking a look at the MN DNR budget for 2012-2013 it totals $957.9 million dollars. Of that $957.9 million dollars, from what I can gather, about $320 million is raised by "choice"... meaning it is revenue gained directly from license sales and stamps etc($166 million), lottery ($25 million) and boat, atv registrations, timber sales, mining leases, revenue, etc ($130 million). Basically we choose on 1/3 of the DNR budget, the rest is decided for us from what I can gather. Are we OK with just us that choose funding our DNR and Natural Resources? If so, I have a feeling that we would notice a 2/3 reduction in funding.

Just thought I would bring some perspective as it is easy to say "if you want it, you pay for it"

I get a kick out of the stadium loyalists & opponents including themselves in the "we" of stadium funding. Cigarette Field will be built by a targeted tax group that has only coincidental interest or benefit from the stadium. Stadium supporters are only part of the "we" if they are cigarette smokers. Given the number of people quitting, switching to E cigarettes, making their own cigs or crossing the state borders to buy reservations cigs, the state may want to consider a "fee" on insulin or heart medication to guarantee a more stable source of funding for sports welfare projects.

I'm grateful for my DVR as I can record the Vikings games and skim through the game in 30 minutes instead of wasting 3 hours. It seems to me that a football culture such as I would identify with the Packers, 49ers, Steelers and Colts permeates from ownership down. I get the distinct feeling the Wilfs' football aspirations have been largely realized...to own an NFL team and to watch the games from an owner's box in a shiny new stadium. A successful program beyond that is characterized by the absence of time consuming problems. Hence, the bland management and coaching staff.

If your read my post and interpreted it to show "favor" for public funding of the stadium, you either missed my sarcasm/intent or I conveyed my disdain poorly. Terms like "Cigarette Field" and "sports welfare projects" do not (to me) convey support/favor.

As long as we start to collect fees/stamps/licenses for every bird watcher, mountain biker, photographer, and every other person that uses the lands and waters we share (but don't fish or hunt) I think we'd be alright on our own. ;-)

There is zero correlation between a funding/subsidizing a new stadium for a privately owned football team and your DNR budget example.

ZERO.

For the most part I agree, but I just find it interesting that we ALWAYS throw the sports teams under the bus(trust me I get it, giving stuff to billionaires) but there are plenty of places out state government helps other companies, groups etc that the average person would see no personal gain from, but are often never mentioned.

The whole stadium thing was a fiasco from the start and it only got worse, not better.

Generally in business if you want a new facility you first outgrow the old one and prove that you have the added ability to handle the expense of the new building. Then, you pick a spot and get accurate costs of the project and then go look for funding. This whole process was ready, fire, aim from the get go.

The decision to use the existing location was based on being able to jump right in and build. In fact the Mayor said the day he signed the bill that he was going to be digging dirt that fall. After they pulled off the location hijack then they put the numbers together, then did the renderings and after all of that they are finally now putting numbers together and finding out they are having to remove major parts of the plan because the costs are too high. Had those voting for the plan known in advance what they are getting for their money the thing would not likely have passed.

Also, if they were honest and up front about what an average fan would have to pay in the new building vs. what they pay in the dome, my guess is the majority would have said they liked the dome just fine.
