Who else got into the bass today? Fall is Here!

Sure felt like fall this morning.

Fished a eastern Wright county lake today with Juan Grande.

Typical 17" fish we caught.

Caught fish on lipless cranks, DT3 Fat and a buzzbait.

Lipless cranks burned over weeds on the windy side of the lake was the key pattern.

The pike were also active and annoying with their hits right at boat side.

Came back from visiting my daughter in Ohio yesterday. Did get out for a couple of hours. Not much just a couple, nothing note worthy. I did try a lipless crank. I need some more practice with that one...

I made it out there Sat. morning and had a good morning. Got a dozen bass with two at 18in. Got a couple on a zara spook in the morning and some on Squarebill crank baits fish thru the weeds later morning. Also got some on a DTFat1 fished a little shallower. Couldn't get anything going on the lipless cranks though.

Yesterday I tried a different lake in the afternoon. They definately moved from last week with the cold front coming thru. It was slow for me. I did get 10 bass, but not one over 10inches! Some days you catch them, some days you don't!

I actually struggled a little this weekend. I got fish but I had to work for them. Like RuddyDuck said, they definitely moved and most of bass I got were small. The pike were going for sure though, I think I lost close to $20 worth of tackle to them. I only got two quality fish the whole weekend. The biggest was 4lb 13oz. My normal fall tactics havn't worked at all for me yet. Last year I had been on a single pattern for a month by now and it lasted into early October.

Absolutely blitzed em the last two days! Only got out for 2 hours before the monsoon came on saturday and managed 7 over 4 lbs and close to 50 fish total for two guys. Big five went almost 23 lbs.

Sunday got out much longer and crushed em even better than saturday. Ended up with almost 25 lbs for our five biggest. We had 2 over five and 10 over four with lots of other quality fish in the 3-4 lb range. Water temps were in the low 70 range. So hopefully this wasn't just a one weekend wonder. Usually, at least for me, they don't seem to start the really hot fall bite until the water cools off even more! But then again this is a weird year!

CastNBlast, was that tourney the BassBrawl?

My son and I managed 10 bass in about 2 hours. We were using jigworms (4.5" worm on 1/8oz head) in 20 FOW. Weird bite. First time on this lake and that's where I found them. Very clear water.

KT, ya they had there Top 10 T.O.C. We were absolutely soaked from all the rain. Actually rode home in underwear and heater on high all the way LOL! Had intended on fishing the Northstar Fall Classic on Sunday but my enthusiasm went out the boat drain along with all the water we took in.

I got into them as well this weekend. Dropped the trolling motor from my dock and while saying good morning to the neighbor on her deck I picked up a 21 inch largemouth, 2nd cast of the day. Picked up quite a few more fish, mostly decent sized. Picked up 4 @ 18 and a few 16s that were solid fish, all in only a couple hours. Most fish came on 4" beavers in watermelon on the Fin-tech Title Shot jigs, and a couple on black/blue J'n'P.

Still not finding the smallies I typically do though in Fall, maybe that's a couple weeks out still. I did get a mid 30s pike though, which is fun and also nice to see from a lake population balance standpoint.

Sunday I had about a 1/2 hour before trailering and hit a few spots. Picked up 4 fish that all hit solid, the nice "doink" of the rod tip. I wish I had more time Sunday since they were hitting hard like that.

Back at it next weekend.
