bowhunt
Sorry ArcherySniper, I will be there to take the title back...but I doubt I will see a fish larger then last year. I guess you never know though, I caught a 40" pike a few weeks ago on a rod and real.Bowhunt

Neighbor_guy
So the last time I messed with this project I did that Wicked pink head the rest goes fast. First prep it for the metallic silver scale coat... and spray on the scales... hmmm... for some reason all the pictures I took of that process turned out all hazy... Neighbor_guy
As I said before, Pink does not cover well, if you want it to pop it needs to go over white, but because of that it allows other colors to bleed through. So after by spraying a couple coats of pink from above you can get the back to be a strong pink color, but the scales will bleed through. After removing the tape I ended up with something that looked a lot like this...

Neighbor_guy
At this point the rattle cans and tape are done and the paint sticks and fine tip brushes come out. I draw in the detail lines and chatter on the fins, tail, and gills. This is also the time to sign and date your decoy. You also need to decide what you are going to do with the eyes. Some people paint their eyes in. I have seen button head screws used, as well as decorative tacks or nails. My daughter prefers the stick on lure eyes. Personally I use gOoOoglE eyes. It gives a 3d look and sets my decoys apart from everyone else. It also makes them look a little goofy, which fits my personality. When I had Gordy test the first set I made all the eyes fell off. Since then I have used 2 part epoxy to set them in place.
Neighbor_guy
While that sets up I took the time to set up for photos. It also helps that the goose finished her decoy today as well and wanted pictures taken. Is it a snow bank??? Nope, a chair with some old t-shirts that become rags and Dixie cups that can ballance a decoy and have decent lighting to make good photos. Neighbor_guy
So here it is.... I was called out and responded in kind. It has given me some ideas on another running thread that can get others involved. I had to get out of my comfort zone and finish a working decoy with a wooden tail, and make a copy of a decoy that I had done before. And here it is, on the hooks, 2nd coat of finish applied. At this point, its no longer destined for my collection. I will dig up a box and get it packaged up nice and ready to send out. Hope everyone enjoyed following along. jkranz36
Neighbor guy, what kind of paint did you use on your decoy? It looks amazing. Also, what did you use for the scale pattern? Always looking for new ideas

Neighbor_guy
I use rustoleum rattle cans. If I'm not sparing it direct I am spraying it into a Dixie cup and brushing it on either with a detail brush or Q-Tip. The sealer is min wax helmsman spar urethane. As far as the scale patern goes... Well, a guy can't give away all his secrets. If you look carefully at all the pictures they will give you the answers.
