Perseid Meteor Shower - added shots

Recommended Posts

I was up at Lake Vermilion this past weekend and couldn't resist shooting the start of the Perseid Meteor Shower. Should reach peak rates between August 10 – 13, but they’re visible throughout most of August. I was happy to see most of my shots had meteors in them even though I may not have seen them when shooting. The moon is waning so the stars are bright!

I plan on hitting the peak showers, should be fun!

Dan, what were your settings? Lens? ISO? Aperature? Time?

we were out at the Buffalo River Science Center, Monday night and did ok after the Astronomy Proffesor shut down all the lights to use the big telescope but some of them were the best quality.

Paul, all the EXIF data is intact if you have an EXIF viewer installed in your browser. I use EXIF Viewer, a free add on for Firefox, not sure about other browsers.

The basic settings were 20 - 30 second exposures, ISO 6400, f4.0. Fairly standard for me for star shooting. If you don't want as much Milky way or other stars you can just lower your ISO to get the look you want. Lowering ISO lowers the amount of ambient light you will get in your shot.

Here are a couple more from last weekend.
