Bait water for leeches

What have you used, with good success for changing water on leeches if you don't have non-city water for keeping leeches? Rain water? De-humidifier? I've left city water sit for a couple days prior to putting leeches in but still seems to lack extended life capacity of non-city.

Never have tried it as I don't use leeches much but I would think a jug of distilled water from the grocery store would work well. Just keep it/them cold.

You could just used bottled water. Except for those that have added flavors or minerals, most are just well water and contrary to popular belief it is not paturized or otherwise altered. Some are filtered to remove particulates such as sand or water-born criters.

I have city water and I run a 5 gallon pail of water and let it sit for 24 hours and then add the leaches (small amount of water) or usually minnows. Haven't had a problem but with minnows I keep them in the basement with an aerator running. I've told the wife not to open anything that isn't labeled!!! HeHeHe!!!

I have a sump pump in the basement and the basin always has water in it. I just cycle the pump and scoop out the fresh stuff running in. It's about 60 degrees and non-chlorinated ground water.

If you keep them in the fridge you can go a week before you even have to consider changing the water.

I either spend the $2.50 for a two and a half gallon jug of water or I will use U2 or Rejuvenade in my city water. U2 and Rejuvenade will treat the clorine and make the water safe. It will also keep your bait happy for extended periods of time.

I have used city water and haven't had any issues. What kind of issues have people had using city water. I do change it out every couple days.

I have used city water from Savage without any issues. Dump out the old, refill right from the faucet.

Apple Valleye water works too. A friend uses tap water from AV without any issues.

I put them in a coffee can with a lid then put them in the fridge. This keeps the wife from freaking out when she opens the fridge. She can't see what is in the can.

Change the water about every 5 days. They will easily last a month this way.
