superfish2
I would call the DNR. I think that would fall under the hunter harrsment laws.
walleyes4me
ole,I would call the guy in if I was you. he sounds like one of those tree huggers that is trying to make it tough for all of us hunters. I don't mind if he has an opinion on hunting as long as he keeps it to himselfself. Last time I checked this was still a free country.
Ole #1
I'm going to call the DNR about this guy, should I wait until I go hunting next time, or should I just call them tomorrow? Thanks for the advice.Ole
Mark Christianson
Call now.If he is doing it to you, he is doing it to someone else.Let the DNR survey the situation, and make a case.
TV BOY
Yea, let them check the plug in his gun and make sure he has steel shot and is 500ft from his neighbors I think that the DNR has more teeth in its enforcement than say the police dept, etc.
Powerstroke
Its indiscriminant (random) shooting which is usually illegal, he's unsafely discharging a firearm, he's harassing hunters, and he could be within proximity to neighbors which comes with several other violations such as reckless endangerment.Report it now and that way the CO can try to moniter the situation in the upcoming weekend. Ole #1
Thanks for the replies. There were about 4 other groups of hunters who had to deal with this today too and this guy does this all the time.My brother was telling me that each time he would call at ducks, the guy would shoot his gun. So they tried to keep calling and run him out of shells, but he kept shooting and shooting. Hopefully the DNR will catch him in the act, he does it all the time so they should see it.Ole
JIGSTER
Ole,Is anyone close enough to video tape this *****.I'm sorry but this makes my blood boil.If you can, you or someone else should try and get it on tape.Hard evidence and they just can't sweep it under the rug!!Good huntin' Jigster

Benny
esox is right, this is veiwed as hunting .It is also hunter harassment, unsafe discharge of a firearm, and if not 500 feet from the nearest house or out building it illegal.Call it in for sure.Benny
Ole #1
I was duck hunting this morning in the forest lake area and one of the homeowners on the lake is trying to scare all the ducks away. Whenever ducks would be flying, he would just shoot his shotgun in the air and scare them off. Each time I had ducks or geese coming into my decoys he would shoot and they would flare and veere off.I'm thinking that I should call the dnr, isn't this harrasment?I just want to duck hunt without this guy scaring all the birds.ThanksOle
Ole #1
Video is a great idea. I'll be hunting tomorrow morning and I'll make sure and bring the video camera with me.Thanks again for the replies everyone.Ole
Ole #1
Well I called the game warden in the area and he told me this is NOT hunter harrasment. He said he'll check it out, but he also said that this guy isn't doing anything illegal. I guess he has to say smoething to me for it to be harrasment. Can you belive this **** ? This guy is just blasting shots to scare the ducks and it's not harrasment? Everytime he shoots, the ducks flare and leave the lake. This is just talk and has my blood boiling.I'm going hunting again tomorrow and the game warden said he would be there too, but if he's not going to do anything about it, I don't think it's going to do any good.I don't want to just give up and go to a different lake, I like this area and I want to keep hunting it.I don't know what to do.Ole
CrankinEyes
Which CO did you talk to.Was it the one from Chisago? If so I havn't heard much good about him.Besides those guys should be all over this guy. Also try the the local Sheriff if you thinks it is a gun and not hunting related issue. Ole #1
That's the one. He was nice, he said he'll check it out, so I guess we'll see what happens. I did call the washington county CO first and he made it seem like it was harrasment and he was going to get right on it. Then he located the lake and found out it's in Chisago county, right on the border. He did say that he would assist the other CO, so hopefully that goes well.I just want the guy to stop shooting like he is. big drift
Even if the CO's do investigate and nothing occurs, videotape and document the incidents also compile etewitnesses in order to establish a pattern of behavior. further if nothing is being done to your satisfaction and you continue to have concerns contact the DNR enforcement supervisor or the DNR post board if you have specific officer complaints. This is a criminal act bone up the harassment statute so you know where you want to go with this. You also have the right as a private citizen to sign a complaint and forward it to the County attorney for reveiw.
Sartell Angler
Ole- the CO you talked to must not understand what is going on, and if he does than he does not know what falls under hunter harassment.Last year, during the state of Washington's duck opener, a group of PETA activists went out onto a popular waterfowl lake in a giant rubber duckey boat armed with shotguns and boxes upon boxes of shells. They proceeded to fire their guns off all day from the middle of the lake in an attempt to prevent hunters on the lake from getting any birds. The DNR and Sheriff department arrested these morons for hunter harrassment, among other violations. If a person is preventing you from participating in a hunt (deliberately scaring off birds, idling his boat outside of your decoy spread, etc) then he is guilty of hunter harassment and should be charged as such.If your CO isn't willing to do anything about this, then I suggest that you go above his head and take it as far as you want...DNR headquarters in St. Paul, whatever. Personally, I know if someone was doing this to me or the people i hunt with, I would have a hard time not going up to his house, knocking on his front door, and giving him a good piece of my mind (/fist).At any rate, good luck with whatever you decide to do.Sartell Angler aka woodduckwizard from the MN Refuge Gang
Ole #1
I'm going tomorrow and the CO will be there too, so we'll see what happens. Hopefully the CO will talk to him long enough for me to shoot a few ducks.Ole
FOOT
Ole, this IS hunter harassment and IS against the law. The CO you talked to must not be up on the law.If he won't do anything ask him who his supervisor is and call him. If that gets you no satisfaction then ask the supervisor who he reports to and continue up the chain until someone knows the law.People like this iritate the hell out of me. Not only is he harassing but he could be putting people in danger of getting hurt or worse. He NEEDS to be stopped. In fact, he night very well be considered to be "hunting" himself and if he doesn't have a license, stamp, plug and or steel shot he might find himself in a world of hurt. Ole #1
Went out this morning and the game warden showed up at about 7:15. The guy was shooting while I was talking to the CO.
