0 Rick G
The most important question is what do you have to spend on one? They range in price from $50- a few thousand$
0 bucksnort64
500.00-600.00 I have the new garmin micro lake chip. I was told the Garmin depth finder are not very good i have no clue.
0 Rick G
There are a lot of good depthfinders at that range. You might want to look at the HummingBird 778 or the 788ci hd. These are both good solid units.

0 FisH_SLaYer24
I would take a look at the Lowrance HDS-5 and the Humminbird 788ci. I like the ability of the HDS units to be able to upgrade to the Structure Scan at a later date.

0 Chris Barlage
I have a 788ci and like it. After using it for a few years though I would have rather gone with a lowrance unit. I like the way they display data better.

Typically I would say either Lowrance HDS or Humminbird 700 series but ever since Lowrance came out with some smoking advancements this past year, I'd buy the HDS 5 Gen 2. You can add SO many features later. It may be more then you need now, but you'll be amazed at what it does and what it CAN do.

0 Kyhl
I had no idea. Thanks.
0 BobT
Wow, I didn't know that either. However, while the radar may be useful in a fog to avoid other vessels or structures, it will be useless for detecting lake bottom structure or locating fish. 0 bucksnort64
what do you guys think of Lowrance Elite-7 HDI or humming bird 597hd di
0 Brad B
I currently run a HB 597CI HD DI and really like it. It would not be a bad unit for a first unit. personally I will be upgrading to the HB 788CI HD DI so I can run I pilot link once I get it. the 597 CI HD DI does not have ethernet capabilty(which is needed to run link) and is a stand alone unit(can't be networked to other units). you will need to consider this if you were to ever get a trolling motor with I pilot link on it. 0 jerkbait
a lot of bang for the buck with the e-lite 7.
0 amateurfishing
I really like the HB 597 also for 2 years now, i'm not nearly into it like others, don't need the ipilot link jazz etc, I just upgraded to a used co pilot and that works plenty good for me....but thinking bout what your future wants/needs can play a big part in buy proper expandable unit now that you can add to in future or get single unit that u like with resell option in future when u want better upgrades
