DIY Diesel Exhaust

Recommended Posts

I am looking at replacing the exhaust on my truck, my wife backed into something and bent it up. Does anybody have any experience in doing it? I only need to replace from the cat back. I am looking at a Magnaflow system.

Magnaflow

From the pic and the instructions it does not look that hard to replace, just do not want any surprises if I decide to do it myself.

Depends on how well equipped your garage is. I did one many years ago (62 comet) laying on the floor under the car. Never will I do that again. A guy with the right equipment can do it way faster and easier.

Now if you have a hoist and a big compressor and a torch....

I have a MBRP exhaust on my Duramax and it was one of the most awful DIY jobs I had the pleasure of doing. If you can't get the truck a fair distance off the ground it is a pain. The worst part was getting enough room to allow the factory exhaust over the rear axle. Putting on the new system was fairly easy.

I haven't heard the Magnaflow system, but the MBRP sounds fantastic.

I put a flo pro exhaust on my truck this weekend along with a tuner and a few other odds and ends and the exhaust was fairly easy to do. The old Cat needed to be cut to remove it but the new parts went on easily and fit like a glove. Didn't even have the truck up on ramps.
