Opener with the guys is about Friends and the FOOD!

Recommended Posts

Not sure about you guys but our opener group is not loaded with professional anglers... more like a bunch of friends from HS and College and sons and dads... Guys we have known most of our lives yet only see 1-2x per year.

We all arrive as early as possible on Fridays light a fire and pop a top and spend a few hours catching up... when guys sit around a fire the next thing we do is think about food. Fishing is not on our minds right away, but we do manage to hit the water some what... enough to keep our wives believing we are going because of the fishing.

So we always have a big steak fry Friday evening, we do potatoes with onions/ peppers/ mushrooms and bacon on the grill with the steaks, the types of marinates is hotly debated... it is one of the highlights of the weekend IMO. We have one guy that does a pretty good biscuit and gravy Bkft and this year one of the guys is doing a homemade spag sauce...

What is everybody else's Opener menu/agenda like?

We try to go up Thursday night and fish panfish on Friday for a fish fry supper that night. Then the pressure's of for filling the pan the rest of the weekend smile We usually haul the smoker along or do a big crock pot full of meat, pulled pork etc. And my buddy makes great "clean the fridge" eggs the last morning.
