Nest Thermostat

Recommended Posts

Considering installing a Nest thermostat in our lake home in WI. Has anybody installed this particular brand of programable/networked thermostat. If so how do you like it? Any problems with install or use?

I have had one of these for about 18 months now. They work pretty good. I have mine at the WI cabin as well. I have an app for my phone to control it. It has lost contact with my phone twice now. The first time was in the winter and I was afraid the power went out, but it was only the internet that went out. Reset the modem at the cabin and it was back to normal. I would recommend it, easy to install too.

Honeywell also offers some wireless thermostats that are in line, or in some cases cheaper than the Nest that you can access via a Mobile Application or online.

I installed a Redlink system in my home and have been more than happy with it.

It kept the "AWAY" temperature which means it worked, but I had no idea since I could not see that remotely on my phone since the Internet lost the connection. I was worried that the thermostat died and the furnace was no longer being turned on...and the pipes would freeze. Like I said, it was all OK, so I worried for nothing.

Del,

The issue I have is that I recently removed my land line at the cabin so those calling devices will not work. No need for land lines when our cell phones work fine there. We do have satellite internet service however and a wireless network installed.

I want to be able to remotely turn the heat or A/C on a few hours before we arrive. I just wanted to make sure that the device still works even if the network goes down. It sounds like it does.

You do what works for you. Can you connect the alarm to a voip, magic jack, type thing?

A big advantage of the traditional land line is that it works when the power is out.

But getting the heat or AC started before you get there seems like a luxury to me.

Momma and chicklets like the cabin warm when we arrive late on a Friday evening in the winter. We have alot of stone, tile and quartz that takes awhile to warm up. The cold countertops do keep help keep your beverage cold though!

I installed a Honeywell wifi thermostat at our place last fall. It is nice to have it warm when you get there. Also nice to be able to check in on the temperature from time to time

I looked long and hard at the Nest this winter to replace a cheap thermostat in our new house.

I liked everything about it, except for the price.

I thought about what I really wanted to achieve and opted for the honeywell wifi thermostat.

So far I love it. Easy to set up on the wifi and the app for the smart phones is extremely simple to use.
