DLD24
I was going to get a Compre for my bass rod, but I am hearing people aren't liking they're new line, so I'm thinking I'm going to go in a different direction...I am planning on getting a 7' MH XF..Thanks for any insight.. thatoneguy
I have a coupla Shimano Convergence rods that are the best bang for the buck I've found. Not a high-end rod by any means, but I love the feel and action, and I got em for $59. Rod selection involves an awful lot of personal preference...see if you can try out a few friends' rods in your price range before you buy. bassfshin24
Under $100 I would say the fenwick HMX. Right at $100 I would say a st croix mojo or 13 fishing Omen
DLD24
sorry I meant for a $100...I held the mojo and wasn't a fan...was quite tip heavy....
RawHog
sorry I meant for a $100...I held the mojo and wasn't a fan...was quite tip heavy.... In that case you will probably like the omen.
clm
I would look at the omen. nice and light. Very sensitive. Never been a fan of st. croix. they feel heavy to me and they don't feel as sensitive as my other rods. unless you step up to the avid series or higher they aren't worth it. Dylan33
Personally, I like Cabelas rods. The Magtouch and prodigy are pretty good for $100..plus, they both go on sale a couple times a year.
Superduty
Hard to beat the Garcia Vendetta and Veritas in that price range. I'm a big fan of st. croix rods but agree with others that the mojo line of rods feel very heavy. I would spring for the Avid series or better if going St. Croix and that will exceed $100. TurnUpTheFishing
Veritas rods are pretty sweet in that price range and I know you can get them cheaper if you search around.

lookincalifornia
lots of good reports on the powell diesel rods. more weight and lenght options on the veritas. i am still using BPS rods for the price, they are ok, not great but ok.
shiltsy
Getting ready to up my game with a big rod purchase this spring. I want to stick with the same company for consistency if there are service issues. Found the Abu Garcia Veritas at Cabelas on sale for $80. Was thinking about buying moreFenwick HMX's, but recently had the ceramic interior part of a guide chip and it was fraying my line. Didn't have a receipt and called Fenwick to see if they'd even give me a discount to buy a replacement. Without the receipt, they basically told me to pound sand. I need to be better about the receipts, but if I'm getting ready to buy 5-6 rods, I'll go with a company that goes the extra mile on service. Cabelas has some nice rods, but I can only find 6'6" or 7' and I really want a 6'8" MXF rod.

bassfshin24
I would take your HMX to Thorne brothers and have them fix it for ya. Pretty cheap. They have fixed quite a few of mine.
river rat316
I don't know, I still like the compre line, plus great warranty, otherwise have a Powell Diesel and like that also, never been a fan of Fenwick, but never looked at the HMX's either
TR21HP
Another two to look at would be Falcon or TFO rods. Both great quality for a reasonable price.

I had a rod tip snap on a Fenwick (my fault, really...swinging a fish in that was too big to be swung) and they fixed it for me no charge. Your mileage, as they say, may vary.Shimano's lifetime warranty is definitely a good selling point. Plus, y'know, they make good rods. Which helps. beeflover
get the 7 footer! it'll be 6'8" soon enough.Ditto with the Cabella's rods, wait for the saleLook at Academy Sports and try a deal with an All Star Rod, I guess they own All Star now. Keep the reciept.
UofMBASS
The Veritas is far too commonly used IMO. The action is not anything special and the reel seat is too stripped down. Call me crazy, but the hands down best 100$ rod I have found is the Skeet Reese 7'2" Football Jig/Big Worm Micro Guide casting rod by Wright & McGill. This rod is (1) lightweight (2) extremely sensitive (3) has a very stiff backbone for hooking power and a very soft fast-action tip that adds to casting accuracy and sensitivity. The reel seat isn't too bad and it features a split grip. This is the only Skeet Reese rod I can even stand to pickup, yet I always keep it loaded on my deck.
