Lower unit oil?

Recommended Posts

#1 How is this a bass issue? Put this in the Boats & Motors forum

#2 I hope that you were doing an LU oil change versus just adding some to the existing oil. If you aren't able to get all of the oil into the lower unit, then I would HIGHLY suggest spending $10 on a hand-held lower unit oil pump. You can get them at any auto parts store. It's the best way to ensure getting all of the oil into the lower unit AND reduces the amount of air bubbles that could potentially take up space in the lower unit, tricking you into thinking that you successfully filled it.

#3 Type your motor make and size into the internet and figure out how much oil it is supposed to hold. Why rely on a forum when you could get reliable information directly from the engine maker?

I put my post on here because I am familiar with most of the guys here and I trust them. If I put it in the motor forum someone like yourself might reply and I would not want to trust your opinion. But thanks for the reply, I did find it amusing.

Hester, your lower unit capacity should be 33.1 oz. which is 1,1 oz. more than a quart. Thanks for all your help Skunked Again maybe you should try boxers, might put you in a better mood?

I have the same motor and I always end up putting in more than a quart. I also end up spilling about a 1/2 quart in the process, so I thought that may have been part of the culprit! eek

Got the same motor myself and I always use more than a quart also but I usually try and flush some LU oil through to clean out the old also.

I use amsoil and the pump they have works great with the yamaha, hardly ever spill a drop.

Get over it, really not a big deal if someone post a bass motor question under a bass forum.

grin

That was my thought when I read his screed as well. The bass forum is by far (IMO) the most helpful part of this site, and is useful for info on far more than what black/blue trailer to hook on what black/blue jig.

Maybe if dude hadn't been skunked again he would be more cheerful?
